wilfredo Posted September 30, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted September 30, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you all for the generous comments. I started doing Seagull shots this past Summer and every time I go to one of the California piers I seem drawn to the gulls. In the process I've been discovering new things about their anatomy in flight. I get up close to them, that was the case here. This gull was on the railing of the pier and I waited for the gull to take flight to start snapping the shots. I was only about 3 feet away manually focusing the 90mm Elmarit R on my Canon 5D II. I was actually trying to focus on the head, but I got the edge of the wing instead, nevertheless I liked the resulting image. So this was a happy mistake. wilfredo Posted September 30, 2009 Author Share #8 Posted September 30, 2009 PS I believe the shutter speed was about 1/125 which in this case was still too slow to freeze the action.
pauledell Posted September 30, 2009 Share #9 Posted September 30, 2009 Wilfredo, A wonderful shot that fits the title perfectly. An extraordinary capture that I can't describe adequately in words. Paul
wilfredo Posted September 30, 2009 Author Share #10 Posted September 30, 2009 Wilfredo, A wonderful shot that fits the title perfectly. An extraordinary capture that I can't describe adequately in words. Paul Paul, I have to admit that I experience something both soothing and liberating when I look at this image, even something triumphant but not in a pompous way. That to me is what makes photography a gift. Thank you.
vdb Posted October 1, 2009 Share #11 Posted October 1, 2009 A spiritual moment you captured. Hang on to it:)
roguewave Posted October 1, 2009 Share #12 Posted October 1, 2009 Wilfredo, this image alone was worth the investment. Everything from here onward is just gravy, with the R90.
wilfredo Posted October 1, 2009 Author Share #13 Posted October 1, 2009 Virgil, Thank you :-). Ben, I have to agree, and I don't mind that I have two very similar lenses. I'm really enjoying the lite weight of the 90 Elmarit R. Thank you for making the suggestion to purchase it. Maybe next year I'll go for a used 35mm Summicron R. I've exhausted my purchasing for the year :-). Here's another shot from the same day: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/nature-wildlife/100645-wings.html
leicamann Posted October 2, 2009 Share #14 Posted October 2, 2009 Intersting image.. almost like you were on the other wing..taking pictures as a tiny little ant on the bird..but of course thats not possible. The feel of the image is what I find most striking, knowing your technical prowess, I would say that this was more of an artistic choice...cool. Thanks for posting Cheers, JRM
JE Posted October 2, 2009 Share #15 Posted October 2, 2009 Wow Wilfredo! This is outstanding. I love the grain and how the bird fills the frame and the beautiful wing detail out there at the tip. Very well done. Jon
