jaapv Posted September 22, 2009 Share #1 Â Posted September 22, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Picked up on Friday, scanned into Rotterdam (about 7 Km from where it has to arrive!) on Saturday on 8.01 in the morning. After that - nothing. "Sorry, we don't have it. Oh, it was scanned in? Well, maybe somebody put it on the wrong shelf. Sometimes it happens that we notice. You know, all these cardboard boxes look the same. We'll file a report..". It means I may see it in November, as I will be out of the country for five weeks. Advertisement Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Hi jaapv, Take a look here DHL has lost my M9!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
phovsho Posted September 22, 2009 Share #2 Â Posted September 22, 2009 Jaap I'm so sorry to hear that. Here's hoping it shows up in time for your trip. Good luck. M
luigi bertolotti Posted September 22, 2009 Share #3 Â Posted September 22, 2009 Oh, now I understand what is that strange message from DHL to me, about "a box from Rotterdam" to be delivered to me.... . Â Sorry for the joke, Jaap... I did remember that Monday had to be YOUR day... and I was expecting your first impressions... pity for Africa , but be confident, DHL is usually better than others... jaapv Posted September 22, 2009 Author Share #4 Â Posted September 22, 2009 Well, taking the M8 is not a real hardship.
batmobile Posted September 22, 2009 Share #5 Â Posted September 22, 2009 small, expensive items vanish from inside depots all the time.... scanned in but 'vanish'. Possibly lost, possibly stolen from the inside. A UPS rep once confided that that it is so constant they dont even bother to investigate in all cases... Â Hopefully this is an admin error and it will turn up. I am not confident though.
danyves Posted September 22, 2009 Share #6 Â Posted September 22, 2009 Sorry to hear. Â I never trust parcel delivery for items like a Leica or lens, hence did have the sole 24mm coded because it could be done in Paris, not having to be send to Solms. Â Nicolas Hayek I think had a Patek Philippe lost this way, if I do remember. Â I will go and fetch my M9 by myself, driving some hundred kilometers to Paris. thrice Posted September 22, 2009 Share #7 Â Posted September 22, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) That's absolutely horrid! Was it insured? I assume you will get full compensation. If only Leica's firmware properly attached the serial number to images we could perhaps pick up who got it! Also, make sure the dealer reports the serial number stolen! M9's aren't exactly common items and the theif may be dumb enough to get caught.
jaapv Posted September 22, 2009 Author Share #8 Â Posted September 22, 2009 I'll leave the hassle to Steve Byford of ffordes. He is rather good at that kind of thing, I'm told.
stunsworth Posted September 22, 2009 Share #9 Â Posted September 22, 2009 Jaap the only courier I've ever had problems with was DHL. In my case they delivered a parcel while I was out but didn't return it to the warehouse printed on the card they left in my letterbox. By the time they'd tracked it down - that took several days - it had been returned to the sender. Â I hope Steve has better luck than I have, they have the automated telephone system from hell - it was 2 days before I could find a number to call that was answered by a human being. Â Doesn't help you I know. Good luck, it'll probably turn up tomorrow <grin>.
danyves Posted September 22, 2009 Share #10 Â Posted September 22, 2009 Otherwise in necessity UPS insured, never DHL.
wlaidlaw Posted September 22, 2009 Share #11 Â Posted September 22, 2009 Jaap, Â I am so sorry to hear about this. I know your pain as I had one Meridian G57 amplifier stolen and one broken on the way to France last year. What this has done is make up my mind. I will not get my M9 couriered out to France but wait to pick it up in the UK in three weeks time. Â Wilson
jaapv Posted September 22, 2009 Author Share #12 Â Posted September 22, 2009 Well, after Steve "spoke" to DHL in the UK the miracle which I could not produce in Holland, despite long telephone calls, was engineered by DHL UK. The parcel surfaced within minutes; "mislaid". I'll not inquire into the way in which it was achieved. It is in the courier's van now according to tracking. Julian Thompson Posted September 22, 2009 Share #13  Posted September 22, 2009 I'm in the mail order business so I know about lost parcels - it always amazes me how the Leica network trusts the mainstream couriers like that!  What absolutely terrible luck. Hope they find it - it should be security tracked and in a separate security box at the very least. I'm surprised it's not caged to be honest given its value. Certainly 'on the shelf' with all the other £20 ebay tat is not appropriate....
erg Posted September 22, 2009 Share #14 Â Posted September 22, 2009 Sorry to hear that ! That's my nightmare ! I picked up my pre-ordered M9 personally four days after the announcement when I arrived from a business trip. My dealer was gracious to open his store on a Sunday for me. ulrikft Posted September 22, 2009 Share #15 Â Posted September 22, 2009 Sorry to hear! Â The legal issues are of course on your side, but what does that help, when you don't have a M9 in your hands :/ Here in Norway, the M9 is not in too high demand it seems, as the two stores I have checked have two-three each. Weird!

DHL is known to have the worst service of all three. If no courier can be trusted, what do you suggest, apart collecting in person (which is quite a costly ride when it's a dealer in Hong Kong…) ?
