fotografr Posted September 18, 2009 Share #61 Posted September 18, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) To those who think their glass is half empty I should remind you that this is not possible. The word 'empty' is an absolute. If a glass contains even one drop it is part full. Empty is empty. There is no such thing as half empty. My point? Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have. If empty is an absolute, so is full. So there cannot be any "part full." Full is full. Advertisement Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Hi fotografr, Take a look here Leica should rebate M8/8.2 owners for an M9. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
redbaron Posted September 18, 2009 Share #62 Posted September 18, 2009 If empty is an absolute, so is full. So there cannot be any "part full." Full is full. Aha! Got me there! Perhaps a glass with some water needs to be described in more accurate terms. ie, that glass has about 125 ml of water in it. Therefore we should describe our cameras as having this, that and the other. The features they don't have, or the water not in the glass, is irrelevant. Peter46 Posted September 18, 2009 Share #64 Posted September 18, 2009 I really wish this forum was a bit more friendly... The guy is a member since 2006 and makes 1 post and gets torn to shreds... Hey Jack, don't worry about me, my skin isn't that thin, after all, the thread is only about a camera manufacturer and it's changed attitude to it's customers. Not something important like the ramifications of the failing hospital system and it's impact on open heart surgery. So anyone taking this thread seriously needs to reevaluate their priorities But Thanks!
wlaidlaw Posted September 18, 2009 Share #65 Posted September 18, 2009 Sorry I didn't see you in my home town. Hope you got some nice shots from the Shot Tower (no pun...actual name). I have some nice bw prints from recent wanderings around the Inner Harbor and Little Italy sections nearby. Jeff Jeff, I took the shots from Silo Point Tower not the old shot tower beside the downtown end of i83. It is the mainly unsold apartment block converted from the old grain silo, beyond Federal Hill. They rent out the bar on the 19th floor for private parties Wilson Welcome, dear visitor! adli Posted September 18, 2009 Share #66 Posted September 18, 2009 Am I the only one who will miss the ability to take IR photographs with the M9? I may keep my M8 just for this. Wilson That's one expensive IR camera

stunsworth Posted September 18, 2009 Share #68 Posted September 18, 2009 That's one expensive IR camera Yes, but it has the advantage of letting you see what you are photographing <grin>. Personally were I to buy an M9 I don't take enough IR shots to warrant keeping the M8.

Julian Thompson Posted September 18, 2009 Share #70 Posted September 18, 2009 I really think this is unfair to Leica in the extreme, When we bought our M8.2's it was a high quality, 10 megapixel rangefinder digital camera with a 1.3 cropped sensor and a sapphire glass screen. It was capable of taking high quality images and I was so pleased with it I did not return it for a refund as it was fit for purpose and then some. Now my M8.2 is still a high quality 10 megapixel rangefinder digital camera with a 1.3 cropped sensor and a sapphire glass screen. It is still capable of taking high quality images. It is still fit for purpose and then some, and now that I have used it for six months I cannot return it for a refund. The only difference is that there now exists a new camera which has a larger sensor from Leica. Why does this entitle me or you to anything from Leica? In what way have they behaved unethically? alfio Posted September 18, 2009 Author Share #76 Posted September 18, 2009 Has anyone noticed that the OP disappeared after making his one and only comment? I'm thinking y'all got yer chains yanked here. Hi there... the OP here. Geez, look at what I started. Not bad for my first post. I guess I should've ended my statement with "Discuss..." or "Fight Among Yourselves" or "Hey, all of you a-holes without a life, stop picking the scabs off of your butts and say something absolutely stupid for us". Granted, I could've made my statement a little clearer, as some of you totally misunderstood it. Lots of you "got it". Thank you for your interesting and intelligent comments. I like the analogies to other German companies like BMW, Porsche and Mercedes and how they reward loyal repeat customers with tokens. I'd like to thank all of you for the entertainment. I've enjoyed it thoroughly. I'll check back later. I'm going out to make photographs. Whoops.... there goes that chain.....time to let go. "Discuss..." etc. Alfio The best camera is your eye. After that, the best camera is the one in your hand.

Guest Olof Posted September 19, 2009 Share #78 Posted September 19, 2009 I think Leica should give a $500 or $1000 rebate to Leica M8/8.2 owners toward an M9. We have endured the IR problems, the loud shutters, the inaccurate framelines and poor high ISO performance of the M8/8.2s. Leica..... how about throwing us a bone? And GM should rebate all their customers if they now want to buy a better car ????
hoppyman Posted September 19, 2009 Share #79 Posted September 19, 2009 The M9 sells for AUD11,499 here ... that is a touch over 10 grand USD... I've had to sell some beautiful R glass (still trying to sell the last one) to fund this camera which I so desire. Thrice you may want to recheck that quotation now that the release is official. In fact AUD 9949 inc GST quoted by 3 dealers I know of now. Get in line
Lasex Posted September 19, 2009 Share #80 Posted September 19, 2009 I paid about 2600 euros for my M8, for me that was a lot of money, but I don't think that was too much. If I wanted an M9 now I would have to trade in my M8 + pay over 3500 Euros. Way too much for me, I am an amateur (and married...). I really don't have to have full frame and 18Mp. My widest lens is 15mm VC, corresponding about 20mm on the M8, and I don't need to go any wider. I don't usually print my digital pictures, so no gain from M9 over the M8 for me (well, for pixel peeping there is, OK ). And I mostly shoot in daylight, so I rarely need high ISO. Of course many professionals must have the best possible gear and thus must get the M9. No doubt about it. Personally I'll wait until the M9 comes down in price to about 3000-3500 Euros (2 years from now perhaps). At that time I guess I may still get at least 1000Euros for my M8.
