Hi Arthur,

I live in the UK. I got my camera from Richard Caplan in London. My understanding is that an initial batch have been shipped in time with the announcement, but that you shouldn't expect further stock until mid October (in the UK at least). This is what's on the rumour mill, so expect some in accuracy.

Thanks, Oli.

Hi Oli, welcome to the forum. Read your blog. Just want to point out that, as I mentioned in another thread, the aperture setting is available in the exif of the M8, although not readily displayed by various post software. It is the estimated aperture using the light sensed by the blue dot compared to the light sensed by the meter. I assume the M9 exif would have it also.

Thank you, Oli. I am in the US and the rumor mill is saying that the initial batch to arrive in our side of pond is the 2nd half of this week. Let's see if that's true.

Cheers,

Arthur

Just a quick update on my original post. Thanks to all who said the camera should come with a passport. I have spoken to Richard Caplan and they are sorting this out for me. Makes me wonder about the 28mm Elmarit that I also recently bought - should this also come with a passport? I will follow up on that too.

Mine had just its warranty card. If memory serves me, my M7 and M8 were with passport, not my 50 Lux and 28 Elmarit bought new. Passport is for body only,

I guess.

By the way, after much comparison, I found ffordes.co.uk had the best prices by far in Europe, of all official Leica dealers. From 10 to 20 per cent cheaper than Robert White or Leica Bei Meister in Berlin. My 50 Lux new came for 1560 euros excl. VAT with Leica rebate last february.

Update

Jaapv is right and I wrote a big bêtise… I have my Passport here for both lenses, with a date of expiry in Feb. 2011 and a big stamp saying : "VALIDATED".

I'm sure - I got a Passport for both lenses I bought in the UK this year.

Btw Oliver, small world we live in - I used to live in Old Woking (Kingfield) for a while and my sister & niece live in the Woking area (Chilworth & Merrow/Burpham).

It was always good to confuse my US colleagues here by telling them that I'd drive from Old Woking, through Woking, on my way to my office in Wokingham. (For real).

Woking Grammar and Woking College for me. Used to live in Pyrford.

On the subject of confusing colleagues, I used to work for a company based in Leatherhead, but with head offices in Gateshead. I had a Dutch client who could not get her head around the fact that I was not in the head office and anything she sent there for my attention was delayed. I ended up pointing out that it was further from Leather to Gates than from Rotter to Amster...

As some of the other members have asked, can you be more specific about your comments in comparing the M9 with the D700?

I ask because I use my D700 the way I used to use my M6, but I wish it were smaller, and more compact, like an M6! Basically, I shoot with whatever light is available, at any time of day. The

D700 has been a great tool for me, allowing me the flexibility of low-light shooting with reasonable lattitude and manageable noise.

There are times when I don't carry the D700, or I'm unwilling to even take it out of the bag, because it's bulky, attracts too much attention etc. I miss just having my Leica, so, the M9.

I would love to hear your comments on using the M9 in available light indoors in dimly light rooms, or on the street at night, that sort of thing.

Thanks!

Andrew
