In these captures I have pre focused for where I want the rider and then follow the rider as he approaches and fire the shutter, took only a couple of shots to get it right.

Yes you can adapt to the SL

Very nice shots, Erik! These guys usually ride at about 15 meters/sec. which gives you a range of plus or minus 0.4 meter at an accuracy of 0.025 sec., which may be in the ballpark of the range you show with these two pictures (given that the diameter of the frontwheel is 0.67 meter)

hey guys (and girls)

we have to assume that we all have thin and skinny fingers, otherwise we have to calculate both on the fat-finger-lag AND the shutterlag .... (take that..) :p

Nice shots Erik, but more easy here, while you "just" more easily follow the bikes

I think that shutterlag is both a sort of the mental uncertain-feeling combined with some exact disturbance
