I will keep my M8 as it is a good camera and I think many others will do so as well.

In many threads on the subject of exposure bracketing, prominent forum members where against it, fortunately Leica did not listen to them and have introduced exposure bracketing in the M9.

Leica please keep your promise that the M8 always remains up to date

I look forward to the next M8 firmware update with auto exposure bracketing function.

If you also feel strongly on this subject, please add your support to this thread.

stop dreaming. the m8 is an old modell and leica needs to make money to survive.

it was already a mistake to introduce an upgrade programm.

if u buy an mercedes e class u know that 3 years later a new model will be launched and u can't upgrade an old car!!!!!! thats the way economy runs.

if u can get features of the latest modell for free for an outdated modell why should someone buy a new camera???????

cheers

Because Leica created a precedent in the discreet mode from the M8.2 being made available to the M8 by firmware upgrade and we hope they will continue that level of support for their digital products as they do for film products still offering a factory service for the full M series back to the M3 a very honourable record.

Anton - I too have the hope that L will update and upgrade some software for the 8. Contniued support for older products just ensures customers loyalty down the road.

Agreed.

I wasn't expecting as many firmware upgrades to the M8 as Leica already provided, so for those I am thankful.

I do not *expect* any additional firmware upgrades for the M8. Feels like the development cycle is mature.

However, I would be happy if they would continue to "value add" by releasing additional M8 upgrades in the near future.

Thanks!

Will

Anton, I support your bracketing exposure bracketing request for the M8. I have expressed this several times on this forum, only to be scoffed at by “experts”. I appreciate that Leica nonetheless implemented that feature in the M9.

To implement it in the M8 only means adapting a few lines of M9 code in the M8 firmware, with very few dollars to be spent. And in my opinion far more valuable than Auto ISO (I tried it, but went back to manual).

.....and went nearly bancrupt with this kind of product policy

I don't think people will buy the M9 for bracketing and manual selections of lenses.

People will buy it because of the FF sensor, the bigger DNG files and because of no more need of UV/IR filters. And maybe easy ISO selection.

I'm sure there is plenty of space for a new interesting firmware upgrade for us M8ers.

I completely agree. I would add that Leica, for whatever reasons, did a less than stellar job with the M8 and they'd be wise to learn from their customer service issues of the past and do things right--not just releasing new models like the M9 (which is an achievement in itself)--but in supporting the customers who got them where they are today--us. This isn't some sort of throw-away mass consumer product. It should be useful for years, like the M series of lenses. I hope Leica will view the M8 as more of an entry level model and support those who can't afford or don't care for the M9. It's the right thing to do.
