lct Posted December 4, 2009 Share #141 Â Posted December 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Small zoom lenses can be done nowadays. Here an old full frame Nikkor 35-70 compared to the Digilux 1 which is 3mm longer and 8mm higher than the X1. Hard to get small & fast zooms though. Advertisement Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 Hi lct, Take a look here Who would like an interchangeable-lense X2?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted December 4, 2009 Share #142 Â Posted December 4, 2009 The Leica Minilux Zoom had a Vario-Elmar 35-70/3.5-6.5 full frame zoom lens for example.
nhabedi Posted December 4, 2009 Share #143 Â Posted December 4, 2009 Yes, if you are willing to go for something like 3.5-6.5, then the zoom can be relatively compact. However, I wouldn't want to buy an expensive Leica with such a slow lens. I'd expect to have something like 2.8 over the whole range. Several forum members even asked for a lens comparable to the one of the Digilux 2...
lct Posted December 4, 2009 Share #144 Â Posted December 4, 2009 ...I'd expect to have something like 2.8 over the whole range... Such a zoom would be huge i'm afraid. Compared to the X1 i mean.
lct Posted December 4, 2009 Share #145 Â Posted December 4, 2009 Now the X1 is a digital Minilux or CM sort of so we can expect to get a version with a moderate and more or less slow zoom soon or late.

lct Posted December 4, 2009 Share #147 Â Posted December 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leica used do make a C1 with bifocal lens if memory serves but the tele was slow as well.
Ted W Posted December 9, 2009 Share #148  Posted December 9, 2009 I don't mind the single focal length at all. Back in the film days, quality fixed-lens 35mm cameras were common (Minilux, Nikon T35, Konica Hexar, etc.). I do wish, though, that the X1 lens was one stop faster. Jim B.  Yeah. I like the camera, but not at two grand. If it was a Summicron at that price, then yes. But a 2.8? For me, that's a grand, tops.
Vip Posted December 9, 2009 Share #149 Â Posted December 9, 2009 Look at the zoom for Leica M. Starting from 16 mm is unbeliveable how small it is. I am sure that Leica in case decide for a zoom X1 will surprise us.
jsrockit Posted December 9, 2009 Share #150 Â Posted December 9, 2009 Yeah. I like the camera, but not at two grand. If it was a Summicron at that price, then yes. But a 2.8? For me, that's a grand, tops. Â Considering Leica's 24mm f/2.8 lens for the M costs like $4000... I don't understand this line of thinking.
Ted W Posted December 9, 2009 Share #151 Â Posted December 9, 2009 What's not to understand? I know they can't make a cheaper/faster lens at 24mm, but as a value proposition, the camera just doesn't do enough for me at that price. Cropped sensor, no viewfinder, shutter lag, etc. For that money I'm into a second (used) M body or a used Lux or some other goodies which are more valuable to me. I like the idea of the camera, and understand the limitations, but I can't do it at that price. Â (Maybe they should have gone with a Summicron in a 40mm FOV... fully commit to the digital Minilux concept.)
jsrockit Posted December 9, 2009 Share #152 Â Posted December 9, 2009 I understand Ted W, but you are paying the Leica tax and an early adopters fee for the camera being the first compact with this sensor. Double whammy! If the lens was an F/2, they'd be charging $3000 probably. I don't like the price either, but it's still not a bad camera...even at $2000. You cannot buy any other real Leica (i.e. not panasonic) new for anywhere near that price.
vicpeh Posted December 9, 2009 Share #153 Â Posted December 9, 2009 I would actually prefer a fixed lens X2M. A M manual type body with fixed 35mm equivalent lens and APS-C sized sensor.
Vip Posted December 11, 2009 Share #154 Â Posted December 11, 2009 If anyone looks at this thread is evident how much in few weeks the mood change: from an absolute no X1 with interchangeable lens to perhaps yes. Even more after the Leica camera announcement that X1 will be a family. The only remaining contrast are : can bee too expensive, too big, the quality. Leica have to consider carefully those opinions! jsrockit Posted December 11, 2009 Share #155 Â Posted December 11, 2009 The X1 family will not have interchangable lenses... unless the X1 is a hit. Then maybe there is a 10% chance.
MPJMP Posted December 11, 2009 Share #156 Â Posted December 11, 2009 I think it's much more likely we will see wide-angle and telephoto adapters that screw onto the existing camera.
jsrockit Posted December 11, 2009 Share #157 Â Posted December 11, 2009 I think it's much more likely we will see wide-angle and telephoto adapters that screw onto the existing camera. lct Posted December 11, 2009 Share #158 Â Posted December 11, 2009 There is a screw-thread behind the detaching ring of the X1 lens which is made for add-ons apparently.
jl4069 Posted December 11, 2009 Share #159 Â Posted December 11, 2009 There is a screw-thread behind the detaching ring of the X1 lens which is made for add-ons apparently. Â So please tell us how possible is it to fit such lenses to the X1? So its potentially already an interchangeable camera? J
lct Posted December 11, 2009 Share #160 Â Posted December 11, 2009 So please tell us how possible is it to fit such lenses to the X1? So its potentially already an interchangeable camera? J Interchangeable would mean that the X1 lens can be removed which is not the case apparently. All i can say is there is a screw-thread around the lens. Reminds me of my Digilux 1 which can be attached to a spotting scope.
