Advertisement Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Hi jaapv, Take a look here M9 - are we happy and who's buying one?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
kameraguy Posted September 9, 2009 Share #22 Posted September 9, 2009 * full frame * shutter noise now on par with film M * accepts same lenses * same form factor as M8 * improved robustness IR filters no longer required. Are we happy yet? I think Leica has certainly listened to us and has strived to deliver as much as possble. They deserve /need our support...especially now. Can you imagine how much R&D went into not one, but three new products in the past few years? And we're not talking run of the mill DSLR and point and shoots either. I'm sure it was staggering. Now that it's official, I definitely will buy one. I have to wait a bit though. My bank account isn't quite ready yet LOL. Kudos Leica on a fantastic job. Everyone involved deserves high praise. wlaidlaw Posted September 9, 2009 Share #27 Posted September 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Love it! will buy as soon as they offer some with saphire glass... don't want to go back and put some sort of film over the LCD... sure, it will be more expensive but hey! Maybe with a hairdryer to soften the glue, you could remove the sapphire glass off an M8-2/u and swap it for the plastic of an M9. If successful let us know! thehouseflogger Posted September 9, 2009 Share #28 Posted September 9, 2009 I don't know what to do ! I have an M8 , 24mm elmarit, EOS 1dMkII, EOS 1dsMkII, 85mm 1.2 MkII L, 35mm 1.4 L. What do I sell, what to keep, can somebody do the math, please? I need to go on working so my gut is to sell the 1d, and the 35mm, and the M8 and see what I am left with.... Am I nuts to risk it? HELP. Exciting times Len Lyons is so busy he has even skipped his afternoon tea and biscuits! Guy
Overgaard Posted September 9, 2009 Share #29 Posted September 9, 2009 I thought there would be more stock so I didn't order any, and now I'm waiting for answers from a couple of dealers how fast. So if anyone know of any German/EU with one, please let me know. VAT won't affect me as I buy ex VAT (company with import registration). I decided I didn't care what the price was when I saw and heard Seal The X1 on the other hand. I wanted that till I saw the lens unfold itself like a small digital camera. I would have thought it stayed the same all the time as it's not a zoom. Will have to see that one in real life first.
AbbeyPhoto Posted September 9, 2009 Share #30 Posted September 9, 2009 "Are we happy?" In a word, no. 1 stop better than the M8 in ISO is still two stops worse than a sub $2000 DSLR, hardly a technological breakthrough is it? The other features are nice, but really there's very little that will improve the image quality which is what counts. I'm keeping my M8, and if the urge takes me I will buy a lens or two - which will have a bigger effect on the images I can take, and leave me with money left over too :-)

zimboom Posted September 9, 2009 Share #33 Posted September 9, 2009 If only I can sell my M8, M6 and maybe my 50 Summicron.
arminw Posted September 9, 2009 Share #34 Posted September 9, 2009 I needed a back up camera, and if the M9 wouldn't have been announced I would have bought another M8.2 . I went to my dealer yesterday put my name on the list and now I have the M9 . :D
wlaidlaw Posted September 9, 2009 Share #35 Posted September 9, 2009 Just bought a S/H 11826 coded Summicron 50 at a very reasonable price to go with my M9, when it arrives. The only 50's I have at present are either LTM or on my Tri-Elmar. The Tri-Elmar 50 is excellent but it is both quite slow and large. I am sure S/H Summicron 50 prices will climb as more people get M9's. Wilson
jkphoto Posted September 9, 2009 Share #36 Posted September 9, 2009 I just have one nit to pick ... Why go back to the plastic LCD? Cost containment will likely be what most people will say is the reason, but it really cannot be that much more expensive to use the sapphire glass ... $100 differential at most? Guest BigSplash Posted September 9, 2009 Share #37 Posted September 9, 2009 I see that all of the threads are so very positive ...great I wish you all well. Certainly it seems that Leica have executed a brilliant piece of technology through to production and have demonstrated yet again that they are masters of industrial design to get 1000 piece parts to fit together in an elegant package. I bought my M8 in July this year and I remain happy. I have given thought to the M9 but looking at the spec I see the following: Good points: Full Frame...............................Yes 18 MP sensor..........................Yes ( I guess) Low ISO (80)............................Yes...............................HOPEFULLY this can be a firmware upgrade for M8 please? High ISO..................................Maybe good, but I am not oo texcited by this Manual Lens Selection .............Yes and V.Good ............HOPEFULLY this can be a firmware upgrade for M8 please? Shipping this week....................Well done leica...it is a real achievement. Bad points No Glass Monitor Cover ........... NOT good and No committed Upgrade path is Terrible Price .......................................At roughly £2000 more than M8 it does not in my opinion give much extra. Candidly I am delighted to have bought the M8 at a much lower price. 1/4000 shutter...........................No 1/8000 is an issue I think. No Maestro Chip.......................Surprising ( I guess this is for the M10) I am sure that the thing takes good pictures although there seems to be already some threads that are less than positive about IR magenta colouring. mat_mcdermott Posted September 9, 2009 Share #38 Posted September 9, 2009 Personally, I'm waiting until the dust settles a bit, but I'm very excited to get one.

It will make a lot of difference for low light with wide angles photography
wstotler Posted September 9, 2009 Share #40 Posted September 9, 2009 My dealer just called me, told me I can pick my M9 up on Friday...........I nearly wet my pants........can't wait! "I nearly wet my pants for an M9." That's the quote of the day! Can't afford an M9 at the moment, but I'm certainly eyeing it up. My chrome M8 has many years of life left in it. Thanks, Will
