Advertisement Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Hi J Mitchum, Take a look here X1 discussion thread (merged). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
J Mitchum Posted September 8, 2009 Share #182 Posted September 8, 2009 Will the X1 be available in all black? Maybe. The original X1 photo was shown with handgrip accessory in black.
sdai Posted September 8, 2009 Share #183 Posted September 8, 2009 From Leica's Twitter account: "There may be something in our webcast that you still don´t know about....." I must say that I'm pretty sick of these kind of teasing ... it all appears to very girlish and pretty much everything on Twitter seems to be so silly. Hektor6644 Posted September 8, 2009 Share #184 Posted September 8, 2009 Hi: As soon as we get a back view of the X1, most of these questions will be answered. Until tomorrow, 09/09/09 @ 09/09/09 AM , it is speculation. Is Leica also announcing the M9 in addition to the X1? I can’t remember Ramesses
Hektor6644 Posted September 8, 2009 Share #185 Posted September 8, 2009 I'd far rather have a decent optical viewfinder. Hi Giordano: Sorry, but I have to disagree. I rather have a "state-of-the-art" EVF instead of an OVF, hands down, especially for RF cameras - no more parallax problems and different focal length VF's. Manual focusing can be achieved by having a focusing digital line instead of a split-screen, a lot like the EV line, in many cameras. In addition, you get to see, in the VF, what you get in the LCD screen. Not to mention, having different display screens, like live view, info screen, and many others just by pressing a well placed button; you will never have to take your eye off the EVF. My second choice would be another a "state-of-the-art" EVF . Best regards, Ramesses
patrick parker Posted September 8, 2009 Share #186 Posted September 8, 2009 It's similar in size to the Sigma DP1 but wider and thicker though not quite as tall. Maybe it's not similar then.
J Mitchum Posted September 8, 2009 Share #187 Posted September 8, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) It's similar in size to the Sigma DP1 but wider and thicker though not quite as tall. Maybe it's not similar then. Sigh. It's closer in size to the D-Lux 4 than the Leica M8. How's that? Do you feel better with a non-descriptive comparison? For everyone else: I have a DP2 for comparison so using that my guess is the X1 is about 12mm wider, 4mm thicker and 2mm shorter. So if anyone else has a DP2 (or DP1) you can get an idea as to its size. We'll see how close I got tomorrow.

J Mitchum Posted September 8, 2009 Share #189 Posted September 8, 2009 Hello J I think you misunderstood me. I meant what will be so markedly innovative about X1. Using the words Leica and groundbreaking within the same sentence should point to something more than a smart compact with a good sensor. This is hardly a big step. Why does it have to be "groundbreaking" if it is what many of us have been waiting for? I think it is a big step to have a compact with a big sensor. Sigma came close with the DP1/DP2 but frankly blew it with slow autofocus, poor LCD quality, etc. Maybe Leica will get it right. That will be "groundbreaking" enough for me. P. Lynn Miller Posted September 8, 2009 Share #190 Posted September 8, 2009 The X1 is the camera I want more details for... yes, I am excited about the M9, that could be that last '35mm' camera that I buy. But the X1 is the camera I have been looking for, a small, compact digital camera with a large sensor combined with a a very high-quality, fast lens between 35mm and 50mm perspective. Manual scale focusing, makes it perfect shooting on the fly from the hip or from the bike, small enough to live in my handlebar bag or jacket pocket. All in all appears to be a great little camera. I am perfectly happy with using an external finder. The only two things that may prevent me from getting the X1 is the price and the lens not being f2.0... if the price gets too close to the M8, I will get an M8 and use a CV 28/2 as a body cap instead. Maybe I will at last find a replacement for my old Canon G2...
J Mitchum Posted September 9, 2009 Share #191 Posted September 9, 2009 Latest rumor is the X1 will be priced at $1995 (available in January) including accessory viewfinder, eveready case, grip, etc. Makes me wonder if that is the kit price and the camera alone will cost less. I guess we'll know soon enough. EDIT: Guess not. $1995 body only, available in October. See below.

danielchow Posted September 9, 2009 Share #193 Posted September 9, 2009 it'd be so cool if it has an articulated LCD screen. it'd make an excellent camera for street photography shot from waist level.
jackart Posted September 9, 2009 Share #194 Posted September 9, 2009 Oh, it has even bigger sensor than Canon APS-C! Good news! Less pixel density means cleaner low-light images.
J Mitchum Posted September 9, 2009 Share #195 Posted September 9, 2009 It looks like they removed the specs I posted. Oh well, a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
J Mitchum Posted September 9, 2009 Share #196 Posted September 9, 2009 Oh, it has even bigger sensor than Canon APS-C! Good news! Less pixel density means cleaner low-light images. It seems like it could be the same sensor used in the Nikon D90/D5000. There are other similarities. The 11 focus points and face recognition. Strange. yanidel Posted September 9, 2009 Share #197 Posted September 9, 2009 Why does it have to be "groundbreaking" if it is what many of us have been waiting for? I think it is a big step to have a compact with a big sensor. Sigma came close with the DP1/DP2 but frankly blew it with slow autofocus, poor LCD quality, etc. Maybe Leica will get it right. That will be "groundbreaking" enough for me. I only use the DP2 in manual mode and bad LCD is a good incentive not to look at it and concentrate on the picture taking But I agree there are still a few details to be improvement so it becomes the "groundbreaking" little camera. Not sure the X1 is that one more than the DP2.
