lct Posted September 5, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 5, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) According to the latest rumour, the M9 will be full frame and its rangefinder will have the same base length (47,09 mm EBL) and the same 0,68x magnification as those of the M8. Due to different circles of confusions (0,0300 mm for the M9 vs 0,0226 mm for the M8), difficult lenses like 75/1.4, 90/2 or 135/4 should be easier to focus with the new body though. EBL = effective base length Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Advertisement Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 Hi lct, Take a look here M9 easier to focus than M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
batmobile Posted September 5, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 5, 2009 presumably a 0.68 finder would make the 28mm lines more visible too.
chrism Posted September 5, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 5, 2009 I hadn't thought of that. Perhaps I won't have to combine the Megaperls and Leica viewfinder magnifiers to use the Noctilux in future? Chris

stevelap Posted September 5, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 5, 2009 If we're allowed to discuss all of this, how about just in one thread;). http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/97310-m9-full-specs-pictures-out-lets.html
lars_bergquist Posted September 5, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 5, 2009 Yes, and the 135mm ones are back In a .68x viewfinder? What on earth would they be good for? The 135mm frame is small enough to be marginal with a .72 finder. The old man from the Age of the M2

erl Posted September 6, 2009 Share #10 Posted September 6, 2009 Well, currently I don't get ANY framelines for the 135mm lens on my M8, so any framelines will be a bonus for me, even if I can't see them! The downside is that those framelines will cost the equivalent of an M9.
gwelland Posted September 6, 2009 Share #11 Posted September 6, 2009 I'm stoked that I didn't crack under pressure and sell my 135 APO-Telyt to fund a 24 'lux :-) Btw, I guess they'll be a bunch of new Leica codes since presumably the 135/3.4 & 135/4 will now be coded by Leica for the M9. ho_co Posted September 6, 2009 Share #12 Posted September 6, 2009 Lars, I agree. With full frame, I had hoped for the 0.85x finder. Particularly since we've discovered that digital requires more accurate focus than analog. Maybe they'll offer an upgrade option for the 0.85 finder? No, I guess David's right. They've got an item both necessary and losable in the screw-on magnifiers, so I'm sure they'll make more money selling those than they would selling a stronger finder option. Drat! Guess it's up to me to keep my eyeglasses up-to-date. But compared to Leica hardware, that's an expensive proposition.
lct Posted September 6, 2009 Author Share #13 Posted September 6, 2009 Lars, I agree. With full frame, I had hoped for the 0.85x finder... So had i but a bigger VF window would have been necessary to fit 28mm frame lines and Visoflex as well as lenses with goggles could not be used any more i guess. KM-25 Posted September 6, 2009 Share #14 Posted September 6, 2009 My most used lenses on my film M's are 35 & 50, the .68X finder could be one downer about the M9 for me. I am already not a fan of a 50 on a .72 as it is...
lct Posted September 6, 2009 Author Share #15 Posted September 6, 2009 Yes i like the 1:1 VF of the R-D1 so much that i wonder if i'll wait for a .85x version of the M9 if any.
Steve Ash Posted September 6, 2009 Share #16 Posted September 6, 2009 For me as someone who wears glasses the 0.68 viewfinder is very good news!!! This viewfinder is much more versatile. Just add a magnifier if you like. Regards Steve
lct Posted September 6, 2009 Author Share #17 Posted September 6, 2009 My last mistake was to buy a M6J to try to mimic my M3 with a magnifier but i found the latter so painful to use that the M6J remained on the shelf most of the time. For me as someone who wears glasses the 0.68 viewfinder is very good news!!! This viewfinder is much more versatile. Just add a magnifier if you like.... If they drop the 28mm framelines it should be possible to get 0.85 or thereabouts. I guess it depends how many people write to Leica asking for it. EBL = effective base length Isn't the circle of confusion set by the pixel size instead of the sensor size. Since the pixel size did not change, so did the circle of confusion stay the same?
