9/9/9: One New Body Only?

The S2 isn't "new", the X1 is fixed lens (if real) - that leaves one "new body" to be revealed... M(whatever). jeeze.

Or - the X1 isn't available yet (mid-October) so they can't actually show one . Or there are three bodies coming in mid-october, none of which are available for viewing yet. Except 9 (I mean, 1)

Doesn't take much to send Leica fans into panicked convulsions, does it?

Rosuna,

I don't understand your posts about "everything but a M9".

It is over, read the post about the" cat out of the bag" and the japanese Leica site and you will have all the details you need.:D

All the best,

Jean-Luc

All this mess about the M9 is very funny...

No, it doesn't :D

There's no opening for the rangefinder window! It must be an SLR! 8-p

Maybe that man with the camera is reading something written on the paper bag... something like "September's fool !" :D

...I don't read this like you... "Ce nouveau boitier tant attendu arrive le Mercredi 9 Septembre..." could refers to the FF RF that everyone is waiting for...

We read it the same way. Only one new body, probably the M9 or M8.3. So no X1, no R10 or whatever substitutes will be *presented* next 9/9/9. But the X1 could be announced then. Just a guess.

An M9 with just a FF sensor and better high iso performance is not revolutionary.

If it is an M i expect Leica has modernised the Rangefinder mechanism.

That is what i hope for and bet on .... single projected framelines to begin with. Perhaps a build in feature to magnify the view with normal and longer lenses attached? Some sort of focus confirmation perhaps?

I do not know if this all is technical possible. But i think these features would make a rangefinder more appealing to non RF photographers.

Did you try to grab the subliminal-flashy pics that appear-disappear superquickly under the above webpage ? ;)

Must be an old film M given the lens chosen for the pic (35/2 IV?).

I remember a fine Leica shop next to a Hotel I stayed 2 or 3 times... it was Bvd. Raspail - next to Montparnasse Cemetery... is it the Maison du Leica ?

It was more precisely rue Schoelcher, crossing Bd Raspail.

La Maison du Leica is Bd Beaumarchais, Quartier Bastille.

Coping with vignetting will be quite a challenge on a FF sensor. Otherwise the first thing to do is to address the flaws of the M8 IMHO, specially its too wide VF magnification. Hence perhaps a bigger window for the M9 VF, a la Epson, and/or a longer base for its rangefinder, a la Zeiss. From wides to 75mm, at least, a good rangefinder should be more accurate than a reflex camera in manual focus mode IMHO.

For what it's worth, here is an English translation of the French text at the top of this thread:

"The Leica House

Dear Leica enthusiast friends,

Here is a very important and happy piece of news!

Once again, Leica will make headlines in the world of photography with its unique camera bodies and its lenses of incomparable quality.

Their innovations have only ever had a single goal, the best possible image quality without making the slightest compromise.

This much-awaited new camera body arrives on Wednesday, September 9th.

beginning at 3:00p.m.,

at the Leica House...

you will be able to not only see it, but also handle it...

You will have the opportunity to follow live on the Internet the introduction of this important innovation which is scheduled for 9:00a.m. in New York, therefore 3:00p.m. in Paris.

Be there as early as possible for there will be champagne... but perhaps not enough for everyone!

We wil stay open until 8:00p.m. to allow you to come celebrate this important date for LEICA and for all Leica enthusiasts!"

Not that it's labeled M9 – that would be too ambitious. If you're one of those waiting for the real 'Leica format' to arrive in ...

What does that mean? There is a M9 or not ("too ambitious", "If you're one of those waiting"... ? :D
