If you insist... Vignettes badly with uncoded lenses.

To be completely honest, this is one of my fears. The vignetting showed in Mark Nortons excellent FF experiment could be an indication that software correction might be needed. The 6-bit coding must have brought quite a lot of business to Leica through lens sales, as using third party lenses becomes, how should I say, less of a breeze. Leica could have a motive to keep the "6-bit business" up and running.

On the other hand, I suspect it would be way easier to batch correct vignetting rather than color drift caused by the UVIR-filter.

The M9 will probably prove itself worth the upgrade anyway, but it would indeed be a lot better if you could just slam a CV lens on it and forget about Milich adapters and lens surgery.

Frankly, there are so many things about this camera that bug the hell out of me that it's hard to know where to begin...

* I don't like the colour. Who on earth thought that "Leica Beige" was ever going to fly? It looks like a prosthetic limb.

* I do admittedly like FF, but it's irritating to have to buy a new Luigi case to accommodate the 14.5cm depth of the new body.

* The version 1.0 firmware won't upload my iTunes library properly. All I can get is "Video Killed The Radio Star", no matter what shot I take.

* Switching the camera to portrait orientation disengages the anti-aliasing filter for a smoother and more beautiful you, which I like. But switching the camera to landscape orientation engages the GPS system and suggests better nearby landscape shots, which irritates me. Also, why is the Sydney Harbour Bridge suddenly within walking distance of Oxford?

* I could do without the time and date stamp in the corner of the shot.

According to the manual, this may occur if you have selected 'MTV' mode. (Menu 3.1.41.5.9.26.5)

This is due to an internal library fault. It can also result in you being directed to Oggsford if activated during lunchtime discussions.

This can be switched off by removing the camera from 'Classic-JPG' mode.

One further word of advice. If using the M9 near Oxford, do not switch it on whilst travelling in a Jaguar motor car. There is a risk that the LCD will switch off, and all communications from the camera will be via a series of tones entered by tapping the shutter release.

Price (too high or too low low or the xchange rate is wrong, or all of the above)

Different shape/thickness than the M8

My 28 summicron is way too wide on the M9

No suitable bag

Can I get a white M9 as an upgrade of my safari M8?

Why can't I use my lenses with UV/IR filters?

How about a visoflex for the M9?

The M8 batteries don't fit!

Yes, at least the M8 looks as though it should accept an APS film. (If you don't believe me, remove the baseplate and have a look!) :)

...alas, I do not own an M8. Send me yours and I'll try blu-tacking a strip of Tri-X on to the sensor thingiewhatnot :D.

I've heard this can be reset by applying beer – although only if the beer is of the requisite temperature (ie, warm) ;)

Actually, this may be grounds for a genuine gripe. I've been informed by a very reliable source that the M9 has a different shape to the top-plate - it's flat without the 'drop' down for the shutter speed dial and shutter release. No big deal in itself but it may suggest that the M9 is a little larger than ideal. Remember the fuss when the M6TTL came out with an extra 2mm of height? There are also general rumours (not from my source) that the M9 is thicker than the M8.
