Perigueux, spiral staircase

Love that shot.... it really does make you pause and reflect!

Having been taken around Châteaux since the year dot and now taking my own two around, I often wonder who, when and under what circumstances went up those stairs and the many like them.

There's a fascinating staircase at Blois - a spiral within a spiral. It enabled (so legend has it) the Kings mistress to descend without meeting the Queen! I'm thinking of having one fitted at home.

Thanks everyone. This was a medieval merchants house in the centre of the town - probably no need for anyone with swords to defend it. It was interesting in that although the house had a very ornamental façade it was on a narrow street, making it difficult to see the whole thing at once - and impossible to get a good photograph of. Medieval bling perhaps.
