I'm looking at M8.2 and waiting to see about he M9. But if it's announced for delivery later, I won't do anything (and certainly not buy and M8.2). And if I would have to wait months anyways for an announced camera, I might wait further till it goes down in price or they introduce specials, the Pound drops, or other.

But if M9 is announced and in stock, I want it and will most likely buy it instantly.

Reading this thread, I come to think of the idea that the M9 FF is announced and ready for delivery, and the M8 and M8.2 is taken out and replaced by a "new M8.2" that will serve as the Baby M camera, perhaps with even fewer qualities/features than the M8.2 but with same image quality. That would make sense. The ideal camera and a less expensive one to produce that can serve as the intro-camera you can get and use while getting a collection of M glasses.

One month to go...

Well whatever, If this apparition does appear and it is not FF then great, I will save my money.... cos I wont be buying it. The only other thing I would love is live view and I,ll bet my house it wont have that. Better ISO thats great but it wont tempt me.

Oh shoot, I missed that - 'live view'. That would ease the focus shift issue for now )

Just what do you expect stocking dealers, that actually have M8/.2 cameras in stock, to say. "Don't buy a M8/.2 because the M9 is coming right around the corner".

They're just hoping to sell off their current stock.

Or maybe they feel it is in their interest, in the long run, to be as up front and honest with their customers as they can.

On the one hand, I don't ask my local dealer to spill the beans or break an NDA. But on the other, I also know that he wouldn't hold back, and he certainly wouldn't lie to me. I also let him know of anything I turn up regarding cameras (especially Leica), how people are using them, etc., because it is in my "enlightened" self interest for him to stay in business. (Heck...I got an email from him at 11:30 last night because of a comment I sent him the piqued his interest.)

I talked to a Leica dealer here in Oslo on Saturday who was of the same opinion; a M9 mock-up is the best that will be shown on the 9.9.09. It will be another year before it can be bought in the shops.

As a fellow Oslo-guy, allow myself to claim that there's a lot of dealers that know close to nothing about upcoming cameras, and they are just guessing, just like the lot of us.

If you add up the information available and mix it with a little common sense, you will see that the M9 is, like they say, right around the corner, and my guess is that it will be available much before +1 year. The reason? Because Iliah Borg obviously has a pre-production M9. The last time I can recall he claimed something similar, was shortly before the Sony A900 announcement. Google him if you're not familiar with his insight in RAW and photography in general. Not the usual know-it-all-camera-dude. Further we have, in Norway, seen M8.2 prices drop with 30 % in the last week, a so-called "Leica campain".

If the M9 with availability on this side of Xmas is improbable, then I guess we're having a ride using an improbability drive ;)

Consider the Zeiss, using the new Sony CMOS sensor...

Here we have the original source of that rumour:

Zeiss Rumors: Digital Zeiss ikon will be full frame with Sony's Exmor R CMOS

And as we scroll down on that page we find this:

Note: This info comes from a camera shop in Yokohama, not meant to be taken seriously.

Just talked to two Leica dealers in Toronto and Montreal.

Dealer in Toronto says that most likely there will be no M9 product announcement in September. If there will be announcement it will be only info and the camera will be available at lest year later.

Dealer from Montreal said that there will be no FF M camera. Whatever it will be it will not be FF and will be available in late 2010 or 2011.

Both of them are long time reputable Leica dealers in Canada.

Good. More time to save my money.

Here we have the original source of that rumour:

Actually, I came up with Sony sensor part of the rumor on my own, when Zeiss Rumors was still saying that a CMOS chip couldn't be used. Recalling the Sony announcements of the new sensor...

That's not to say that several others haven't come up with the same rumor (or rumor extension) at the same time...It is a BIG world. ;)
