jaapv Posted July 6, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 6, 2009 So is a model A Ford but I wouldn't want to drive an original on an L.A. Freeway:) When coming back from the Hessenpark I overtook an original Rolls Royce Silver Ghost from the 1920ies, happily running with the traffic (albeit sedately) on the Autobahn. barjohn Posted July 6, 2009 Share #5 Posted July 6, 2009 Two points: 1. Being a classic in 2.5 years is both meaningless and probably not a good thing, and; 2. European drivers tend to follow the rules better than American drivers. If that Rolls was in the fast lane and you flashed he would move over. In L.A. he would stay there and slow down just to piss you off. The driver might have been happy but you wouldn't be and further the driver might get shot by someone he pissed off driving a slow vehicle in L.A. traffic. jaapv Posted July 6, 2009 Share #6 Posted July 6, 2009 I don't really think he could be in the fast lane on the German Autobahn, The traffic there was heavy and flowing at 220 Kph. I don't think an 80 year old RR could work up to that speed Actually he was doing nicely overtaking trucks in the righthand middle lane. Trucks are limited to 80 Kph, so he must have been doing about 90. Or 55 Mph. Anyway the occupants had their mustaches flapping well backwards. adan Posted July 6, 2009 Share #9 Posted July 6, 2009 Face up to it, Wilfredo. Some folks will never pass up an opportunity to sneer at the M8. Sort of like Fox News and Democrats....it becomes a reflex response.
SJP Posted July 6, 2009 Share #10 Posted July 6, 2009 The M8 should be bigger, this is clearly a manipulated photo, us Leica snobs do not leike manipulated photos But I agree, it is worth pointing out that the M8 is a classic camera - pretty much by definition as it is Leica's first digital M. Be it flawed or perfect (I tend towards the latter, say 9 out of 10) it has to be a classic.

You left out the part where they flip you off with the Welcome To LA sign. That comes between slowing down and shooting you.
ken_tanaka Posted July 6, 2009 Share #12 Posted July 6, 2009 I'm always amazed at how discussions about cameras on a camera forum most always turn to cars as comparisons. It seems very natural, actually. Such discussions are overwhelmingly the pastime of men. Men tend to be fetishists about stuff: boats, fishing poles, lawn mowers, home audio junk, but most of all cars and cameras. So such analogies are often just reflexive conversation points.
