LADP Posted November 10, 2006 Share #21 Posted November 10, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I shoot only film for the most part, but I am interested in digital, and the M8 in particular. I frequent both the digital and the film forums here. It is quieter there, but that is to be expected as many people have pointed out in the wake of the new M8. If Leica had just introduced a new film body, you can be sure there would be a ton of activity on the film forum.

ddp Posted November 10, 2006 Share #26 Posted November 10, 2006 Currently there are 146 viewers on the Digital forum and 7 on the entire Photo forum. I occasionally peek at the film forum, but I am intrigued by the M8 and what Leica does on a digital scale. A lot does hinge on how Leica handles all things digital these days. I may be 1 or 2 years out from going the digital M route, but I do enjoy reading how the bugs & quirks are addressed.
abrewer Posted November 10, 2006 Share #27 Posted November 10, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have to agree with what someone above said about the "rubber-neckers" driving past the scene to get a glimpse. No doubt it has been a tense little drama this week as the events played out after Pascal made his first post. Thanks. Allan
ho_co Posted November 10, 2006 Share #28 Posted November 10, 2006 It is nice and quiet in the film and customer foras these days.... Oh, Carl! Double plural! Careful!--One forum; two fora or two forums. (And did you notice I completely sidestepped the issue? ) --HC
ho_co Posted November 10, 2006 Share #29 Posted November 10, 2006 It is rather amusing that someone buying a $5000 camera rushes home with it, charges up the battery and then spends their first hours using it to photograph assorted black fabrics and bright lights at night! James-- I bet the early users of film Leicas in the '20's and '30's of the last century did something similar. Not black fabrics and bright lights, but bars and restaurants to see how unobserved they could be with this new compact camera. There's a difference, of course, but if you went out to bars and restaurants you had to spend money. After you buy an M8 you may need to stay home and take pictures for a few weeks! --HC
John Maio Posted November 10, 2006 Share #30 Posted November 10, 2006 I returned my M8 after 4 days and I swear to you - - when I returned to the solitude of my office, feeling glum, I heard my M7 purring! It even had a smug look!

lct Posted November 12, 2006 Share #32 Posted November 12, 2006 We Film shooters are so tired of all this and we went to APUG. No digital allwed! We've been happy to host you here Harris although you were not a Leica user.
haris Posted November 13, 2006 Share #33 Posted November 13, 2006 We've been happy to host you here Harris although you were not a Leica user. Who are "we"? I mean, lct, you are spokesman of this forum? Not being rude, just to ask I love healthy irony, and that was why I wrote my post, and that is how I understand your post lct. I do have Leica lens, but, unfortunately, it is on digital camera, so I don't use it. I tried digital and decided not to like it (it is allowed in demokarcy to make choice, or I am wrong?)... Well, I am sorry not to be rich and not to be able to buy real Leica, just this hybride I could afford. As we all know there are firstgrade, secondgrade, thirdgrade, etc humans, and I belong to (I hope) thirdgrade human. Regarding financial abilities and regarding how you firstgrade humans from EU, old Europe, France in this case see me... Thank you French revolution, thank you egalite, fraternite, liberte! As oportunist I, poor Balkan savage, come here on this forum that you firstgrade humans see as reserved for you just to bother you and to dirt a little purity of your exclusive group. And at the end, you all can see that my posts are general, that is I don't make (anymore) comments about Leica equipment, prices etc... I just getting involved in general photography discussions, like this about film/digital. And my comment was to tell that this film v. digital I thought is over, and in free world everyone has right to make its choice. It seems I was wrong. It seems that some digital users have need to prove themselves over film users. OK, I understand, they are not convinced yet, so have need to be little agresive. Fims users are in more or less hard times, and what some of digital users do looks like beating someone who is already lying on ground in pain. To finish us completely. To make "filmocide". To perform final solution over film. Now, if you excuse me I must go to beg some money for lunch today and to see in what garbage container I will sleep tonight. Don't be afraid, I will not go to French ambassy to ask visa for visiting your human rights, equal oportunity, guests welcome, etc... country. After all, current laws won't let me to bring my camera with me in airplane, so no reason for travel (OK last sentence is overracting and ironizing). As you can see, I am not saying anythig about this forum, this forum (administrator, moderators, and numbers of people) welcomed me, or atleast don't have reason to ban me from here. So, I am not talking about forum, just about people whose exclusivnes is so important... After all, being rich, or wealthy, is not only to be that (rich and wealthy), but it is even more to be different, that is better, higher human than others. What is reason to be rich if poor can have what rich have, how in that case rich can prowe they are higher humans... Again, I love lct's irony. Cynically yours, Balkan (500 EURO monthly income) savage Haris
andybarton Posted November 13, 2006 Share #34 Posted November 13, 2006 Haris Everyone is welcome to post here, as you know from your time on the old forum. I hope you continue to do so, as your insight was very valuable back then. However, the (admittedly) cynical tone of your post isn't really necessary, as you have many friends here. LCT and me included.
Guest stnami Posted November 13, 2006 Share #35 Posted November 13, 2006 To finish us completely. To make "filmocide". To perform final solution over film. ... bloody fantastic Haris
abrewer Posted November 13, 2006 Share #36 Posted November 13, 2006 Haris However, the (admittedly) cynical tone of your post isn't really necessary, as you have many friends here. LCT and me included. Do I remember correctly that a member of this Forum even offered to give you his old Leica equipment, or sell it at greatly reduced price, to you Haris? Be gentle where you tread here friend. Thanks. Allan
haris Posted November 13, 2006 Share #37 Posted November 13, 2006 Andy and Allan, As you could read in my last post I wrote that forum and people (and you two are among them) welcomed me here. I am grateful for that. Please, do not feel personally attacked with my post. And regarding lct, I have seen his response to my post as irony, and I am not that much hurt with his post. My post is and isn't personally addressed to him. In some parts it is my response to lct, and rest is in general. It seems today my blood pressure is high and my tolerance level is lower than usual, so I wrote previous post. Allan, you do rememeber correctly. Not only that (thank you Frank again), there was offering from forum members to collect money to buy me serious Leica M kit or to collect that kit. I was really touched and grateful for that. But, as you can remeber, I refused that offer. I am not here to beg Leica euqipment. If I can have it, I will have it myself, if I can't, so be it. So, this is: I wrote my previous post as: 1. response to lct's respond to my earlier post, not to offend him, but I felt a little... 2. not to offend really good people here, but, there is bitterness, you know working hard will not give you good life and in this case money for Leica. There are things one can not control. And that bitterness is product of fact: I work hard, and I can't afford myself Leica even working hard. And then someone tells me I am guilty for not having Leica. And despite that "they" will accept me here - let say not as serious equal, but as orphan... You can imagine what my answer could be... I don't want to offend anyone, but those who feel offended they probably recognise themselves in my previous posts. And that is beyond my control... And before someone asks me "why am I in this forum if my situation is like it is". My answer is: that was discussed years ago, and I am here because some people, and they know who they are, wants me or doesn't mind me to be here. And I love to discuss with them from time to time. And with others, with whom I can agree or disagree, but to discuss. That could be done on other forums, but, here are some people I like, and that is reason. Regards. john_r_smith Posted November 13, 2006 Share #38 Posted November 13, 2006 Haris I wouldn't mind in the least if you were a member of this (or any other) forum and only had a Kodak Instamatic of 1962 vintage. We are all here because we are interested in photography (and Leica photography in particular, I suppose), and I don't think you necessarily have to have any particular piece of hardware to qualify for that. When I was in my early 20s I could not afford a camera at all and borrowed a friend's SLR when I needed one. When I was in my 30s I wanted a Hasselblad with a burning desire, but could only (just) afford a second-hand Rolleiflex which I used with great pleasure and loved dearly for many years. Now that I am 60 I can at last afford a Hasselblad - but only because the digital revolution has flooded the marketplace with used ones at silly prices. So finally I have the camera of my dreams, and life is good. Let us hope that you, too, will one day have that M-series camera of your dreams - and that you don't have to wait until you are 60 before you get it Best wishes from Cornwall John
haris Posted November 13, 2006 Share #39 Posted November 13, 2006 John, Thank you. On the other hand there are rules for example that any posted photograph need to be made with Leica equipment. I respect that rule, and that why I try to discuss only a general discussions. Regards.
