I do like it though, it handles well, light and takes good pictures with the 14 - 50 (28 - 100) kit lens. You can get other 4/3rds lenses but they won't have IS in the lens. Overgaard Posted June 17, 2009 Share #4 Posted June 17, 2009 Digilux 2 is probably worth the experience because it's a very special camera. And economical to get as well. Digilux 3 is not that bad, it just seem to be an attempt to continue the successful Digilux 2, combined with the "new and hot" fourthirds system. Which was an error in my opinion because it made the camera and lenses bigger, introduced mirror-slap and they removed the EVF which - after some years of thought - we all seem to agree is actually a nice feature. The D-Lux 4 I wouldn't rule out either. It's a handy little fellow, and sometimes pocket size is what you need to bring the camera. I wouldn't have a D-Lux 4 without the viewfinder, but that's me. The Digilux 3 does include the option to use R lenses with an adapter. Only setback is the 2X crop factor (unless you like tele photo in which case you get lots of tele without loosing f-stops). The big drawbacks are no eye piece and limited 24 - 60 mm focal length. I seem to use mine only on 24 so to me that's not a drawback. The micro 4.3rds I was thinking of is the new Olympus E-P1. John Thawley Posted June 17, 2009 Share #7 Posted June 17, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) As Thorsten pointed out, the Digilux 3 tried to borrow on the strengths of the Digilux 2 (retro styling and analog controls) while adapting the "new" 4/3 system. This meant the camera also became a somewhat dysfuntional DSLR. I say dysfunctional, because it will do everything a Canon or Nikon DSLR will do... except for more money and frankly, not as well. It's a nice camera... but after I had owned mine for about 3 months... I found myself wondering why I was carrying that camera over one of my pro Canon cameras. There was no advantage.... only disadvantages. Yes, it was a bit smaller... and yes it looked cool. But it wasn't has versatile and still took up plenty of space. Ultimately, I went back to the Digilux 2.... and it was a match made in heaven. I LOVE this camera. I have fun with it... and it produces fantastic photographs. Sure, it's not going to compete with my pro Canon gear performance-wise... but the emotional collateral and the enjoyment of use is 10 fold what my pro gear gives. I also own the D-Lux 3... it's nice... it's convenient... and I like it. It doesn't give the control or same emotional connection though. The Digilux 2 is like one of my children. It's amazing. dugby Posted June 18, 2009 Share #10 Posted June 18, 2009 I have and use both, D2 and D3, (also got a D1) and have written my experiences of using both in this forum previously. Just search back. I still enjoy using both as they are sufficiently different and I should tell you that the D3 images are "mostly" better than those from the D2. For candid shots, I get more "keepers" from my D3 than I get from my D2. But there are many occasions where I prefer to use of the D2, at music concerts (where the absolute mechanical silence of the D2 is fabulous) and at dinner parties, where an SLR mirror slap is also a bit offensive to the circumstances. I prefer the lower weight of the D2, but the better images of the D3...... So MY advice is buy both and take the camera with you that suits the occasion..... My dream camera is Micro-4/3 in the D2 body with it's 28-90mm Vario-Summilux lens with the D1 viewfinder Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
