Advertisement Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Hi Per P., Take a look here How many of you M8 users wear glasses?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jimleicam3 Posted June 10, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 10, 2009 I have been wearing glasses since I was 9 years old. I did add a +0.5 lens to my viewfinder and it helps. I had zero luck while wearing contacts, it did not help my focus at all. I still get sharpe photos. I do have trouble with lenses being wide open unless I really take my time to get a good focus. Don't let glasses keep you from getting one of the best cameras out there.
doug_m Posted June 10, 2009 Share #3 Posted June 10, 2009 No problems at all with glasses and the M8. I do not use a diopter correction on the camera.
sm23221 Posted June 10, 2009 Share #4 Posted June 10, 2009 Glasses work great with the M8, especially mine since they also correct high-order aberrations in addition to myopia and astigmatism.
SJP Posted June 10, 2009 Share #5 Posted June 10, 2009 +1 I wear glasses, no major problems + no diopter correction stuff = neccesary. If I take my glasses off my right eye is only -6.5 diopters out of focus, even then focussing with a rangefinder is OK. But it does give me a headache. EDIT: and yes I can't see what I am actually focussing on.
morffin Posted June 10, 2009 Share #6 Posted June 10, 2009 I wear glasses ...no problem either. Im a left eye shooter so the left lens on my glasses gets scratched...no biggie.
cbretteville Posted June 10, 2009 Share #7 Posted June 10, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I do. No choice, use contacts to from time to time, but rely on glasses. karlkober Posted June 10, 2009 Share #8 Posted June 10, 2009 I wear glasses, and it is definitely a disadvantage with the M8. I think it was discussed somewhere else in this forum (maybe in the German section, cannot remember). But with M8, I cannot see the 28mm frame, even the 35mm frame is hard to see in total. With the M7 / 0.58 , that was much better. I could see 35mm + surroundings. As the M8-28mm are similar to the M7-35mm, I'm somehow losing the classical 35mm area with M8. One of the disadvantages of a great camera...
thompsonkirk Posted June 10, 2009 Share #9 Posted June 10, 2009 If you wear glasses, don't buy a 24/25mm lens - you'll have trouble seeing the framelines. Kirk
ryanpeck Posted June 10, 2009 Share #10 Posted June 10, 2009 I wear glasses and the only time it's any real bother is when I'm using wide lenses or auxiliary finders. I find it's difficult to see to the edges of the frame with my glasses on. Other than that, no issue whatsoever.
egibaud Posted June 10, 2009 Share #11 Posted June 10, 2009 I use glasses and hace the X 1.25 magnifyer on each of my M8 bodies. No problem. Eric
Bo_Lorentzen Posted June 10, 2009 Share #12 Posted June 10, 2009 I have a slight nearsightedness, wear glasses all the time since it is easier and use them with the M constantly.. (with all cameras actually) I use both eyes and the only real problem is that over a couple of years I get scratches on the top inside corners of each lens... by then its time to check the prescription anyway. Focusing of the camera is painless and I don't use a diopter on the camera. .
Jeff S Posted June 10, 2009 Share #13 Posted June 10, 2009 You're wise to try it out first. If possible, try with magnifier (1.25 or 1.4) as well. And, M8.2 will be somewhat different than M8. I've worn glasses for 20+ years, using various M iterations with success over that time (now M8.2)...but I always tried it out first. Only you can decide. kalina Posted June 10, 2009 Share #14 Posted June 10, 2009 I wear glasses with a 1.67 index. My vision in my left eye is fairly bad and I don't seem to have any problems looking through my M8 viewfinder.
Printmaker Posted June 10, 2009 Share #15 Posted June 10, 2009 I tried an adjustable 1.33 viewfinder but found I still needed my glasses when I took my eye off the viewfinder. These days, I just keep my glasses on and don't worry about getting 24/25 lenses. The 28 frame is more or less useable. 35 is perfect with glasses. gfspencer Posted June 10, 2009 Share #17 Posted June 10, 2009 No problems at all with glasses and the M8. I do not use a diopter correction on the camera. Same here. I tried diopters with glasses and diopters without glasses. Finally I got a prescription that lets me use my glasses and no diopter. I have a little trouble with 28 and 90mm lenses . . . but not much.

Bo_Lorentzen Posted June 11, 2009 Share #19 Posted June 11, 2009 Gene, Thats pretty good. I can see the 24mm but its a bit tight. Im very comfortable with the 28mm. .
lars_bergquist Posted June 11, 2009 Share #20 Posted June 11, 2009 I have posted on this before, but: I am so severely presbyopic that my eyes are fix-focused beyond infinity. Therefore I wear progressive specs for everything except sleeping ... This works fine with M cameras. I can see much of the 24mm frame of my M8, about as well as the 28mm frame of a film M. All accessory finders work well. You learn to instinctively place the eyepiece against your right eyeglass at the point where you see the rangefinder patch clearly. The only problem was that when, long ago, I got my first progressives, with acrylic lenses, the eyepice frame of the M4-P ruined them in about ten days time. After trying and rejecting correction lenses (you see sharply only through the finder, and the screw-in lens also increases the eye distance, just like specs, vignetting the finder) I solved the problem by buying a rubber-lined M6 eyepiece and substituting it. All fine and dandy. The old man from the Age of Bifocals
