spylaw4 Posted June 2, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 2, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Grab a look at Red Dot's front page! A D-lux 4 Safari edition coming mid-August with a canvas outfit bag - £765. 100 for the UK out of 6000. Probably due to the success of the M8 Safari and the D-lux4 Titanium. Could be cool! Leica D-Lux 4 Safari Set - Speical Edition David My LX3 is turning green with envy. Oh wait, now it's a Safari LX3!!!
burkey Posted June 3, 2009 Share #5 Posted June 3, 2009 The chrome lens looks nice but the bag, at least in the photo, is very cool! Any photo available showing the inside of the bag? . . . David
kalina Posted June 3, 2009 Share #6 Posted June 3, 2009 I wish they colored the lens bevel the same color as the body. It looks like the bag might be infinitely more useful than the one that came with my Titanium.
ceflynn Posted June 3, 2009 Share #7 Posted June 3, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) The bag does look good. Everyone knows that safaris are partly an excuse to buy new luggage.

Ecaton Posted June 4, 2009 Share #10 Posted June 4, 2009 Body green, lens silver, accessories black - not my taste. The bag looks nice, but $300 for green color and a small bag, no thank you, Leica!
tommycrown Posted June 5, 2009 Share #11 Posted June 5, 2009 Why Safari without extension for zoom lens attachment? Are we not allow to use any zoom more than 3X here? I guess Lensmate will have to come out with green version as well. I actually like the color green, but what's next? Instead of focusing on D-Lux 5, Leica will re-paint DL4 with white version next? rob_x2004 Posted June 5, 2009 Share #12 Posted June 5, 2009 Geez! The LX3 costs that or a bit more in Aus. The plain Leica is nearly eighteen hundred or something Aus.
rob_x2004 Posted June 5, 2009 Share #13 Posted June 5, 2009 I tell a lie. The plain is down to fourteen hundred now, and the tit at eighteen. Theres a turn up for the books.

bill Posted June 5, 2009 Share #15 Posted June 5, 2009 Is Leica evolving into a 'lifestyle brand' in the mould of Gucci, Prada, Burberry et al? Oh come on... Been there, done that. Leica has always pandered to the well-heeled, tasteless amateur, since the days of the Leica Luxus back in 1929... It reached a peak under the ownership of Hermes. And why not? If the sale of these easy to produce limited editions pays for a bit more R&D into the real stuff, why complain? Regards, Bill
earleygallery Posted June 5, 2009 Share #16 Posted June 5, 2009 Why Safari without extension for zoom lens attachment? Are we not allow to use any zoom more than 3X here? I guess not all safari expedition photos are taken at long range What about the shots of everyone round the camp fire at dinner, or the wonderful sunset landscapes in panoramic format? Lot's of "new" and young digital photographers aren't all that aware of the brand or its significance to the world of photography.
charlesphoto99 Posted June 5, 2009 Share #18 Posted June 5, 2009 Wow. Limited edition of only... 6000! Wait a bit and I bet it'll be down in the $700 range.....
loksi Posted June 6, 2009 Share #19 Posted June 6, 2009 Wow. Limited edition of only... 6000! Wait a bit and I bet it'll be down in the $700 range..... The 'special editions' be they Titanium or Safari or whatever are only limited in that less people can afford them. I still prefer the plain old garden-variety black, although I did finger a Titanium for a few minutes. A purely personal opinion (and not wishing to step on corns or cause anyone offence) but for me the Safari DL4 looks a little (gasp) ugly. There, I said it .... and probably Leica just cancelled my 3 year warranty as punishment :-) Ross
playingolf Posted June 6, 2009 Share #20 Posted June 6, 2009 OK, I will say it...Safari is butt-ugly, although not quite as stupid a color scheme as an all white camera....I suppose if one wanted their camera to show up in every reflective surface in their image... I guess white is the way to go, lol. The D-LUX4 in black is understated perfection for actual photographers, not the "gee-whiz, look at the expensive camera I am wearing crowd". Just my personal opinion, and if Leica needs to do this stuff to stay in business making great cameras and lenses, then please by all means ignore me. You make great stuff I have loved for years. Personally, since 1973 I have owned six M series Leicas, one was chrome all the rest black, and never bought one of them new. I own 5 black lenses, again all bought in boxes in great shape but none new. I liken it to buying a 2 year old MB or BMW for 50% of new....you get the pleasure of owning and using a superb product and let someone else deal with the initial depreciation. My cost of maintenance is a tiny fraction of the savings, plus as long as they remain in good shape, I can unload the item for around what I paid for it...thank you, again Leica. The D-LUX4 was the only Leica I have bought new, but I must say at $649 USD it is the best Leica camera value yet. The images are wonderful, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to carry a serious "no-excuses" compact today.
