Jamie Roberts Posted May 22, 2009 Share #21 Posted May 22, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) IMHO, there is one forum here, the "L Camera Forum". Everything else is a sub-section of it, not a forum of its own. I am 100% with the "Less is more" school of thought. The biggest barrier to full integration here, IMHO, is the unwillingness of many people who frequent the M8 sub-section, to actually get round and engage with the rest of the forum. As if they might be somehow contaminated with the smell of fixer, or something. Most of them are unwilling to share their work in the Photo sections either. Very strange, if you ask me, and a great pity. The "Customer" sub-section is intended for general Leica discussions and queries, relevant to everyone who owns or has an interest in Leica. The "us" vs "them" notion is a little weird Andy. Why do you even have a goal of "full integration?" The M8 sub-forum is a huge success because M8 owners "don't care" about film developer. Why on earth should they? They're not scared, and it doesn't make them silly or somehow deficient or afraid of being contaminated. It just makes them users of a different technology and a different post-process. Personally, I have nothing against the film forum, and have wandered in there when I have a question (that usually has to do with digital / film interaction, like scanning). But I don't have time to contribute to a fully-integrated model. You have an S2 sub forum; an M8 sub forum, and subdividing by technology seems to make sense to me and others. So why not a DMR sub-forum?

lct Posted May 22, 2009 Share #22 Posted May 22, 2009 ...I think that 'Digital M', 'Digital R', 'Digital S' and 'Digital Others' would be the right balance... So do i.
troyfreund Posted May 22, 2009 Share #23 Posted May 22, 2009 Why don't people who are interested in a DMR sub-forum join the DMR Social Group? Also, do you have to be a member of the group in order to post in the group?
Jamie Roberts Posted May 22, 2009 Share #24 Posted May 22, 2009 Why don't people who are interested in a DMR sub-forum join the DMR Social Group? Also, do you have to be a member of the group in order to post in the group? As I said before, I don't care about another social interface, thanks. I like the news-group-like forum, and I don't want to have to "sign up" to yet another thing that needs a password. Sheesh. This is so simple and consistent: make a DMR sub-forum--it's just a good idea. Use will dwindle eventually and you can then get rid of it
bill Posted May 22, 2009 Share #25 Posted May 22, 2009 The "us" vs "them" notion is a little weird Andy. Why do you even have a goal of "full integration?" The "us" vs "them" notion is usually the other way around in the M8 ghetto - the (fortunately minority) mentality that believes - and states - that you should not be allowed to have an opinion, let alone post there, has risen it's bigoted and ugly head more than once. There are no good reasons for artificial barriers that make people behave like arses. Why don't people who are interested in a DMR sub-forum join the DMR Social Group? Quite. ...I don't want to have to "sign up" to yet another thing that needs a password. It doesn't. Sheesh. This is so simple and consistent: make a DMR sub-forum--it's just a good idea. Use will dwindle eventually and you can then get rid of it If it was such a good idea, don't you think there would be one already, set up, oh, I don't know... when the DMR was introduced, say...? This is so simple and consistent: make a DMR sub-forum--it's just a good idea. Use will dwindle eventually and you can then get rid of it Seems to me a simple thing as well, I like the sub groups and am really pleased I don't have to see anything about film, or M anything..I would like to bypass the pan/leica stuff as well.. god, I am glad nobody is posting about rifle scopes or I'd have to see those too.(which at least would be more interesting to me than what pointnshoot has the best jpgs.) time is the big factor for me.. separate the subs into product lines and be done with it.. seems so logical...which is the way this site is evolving anyway with the M8 + S2 subforums being created.. I believe there are a lot more dmr users than S2 users at this point in time. I don't even see why those without dmrs would even care to have a say on this point..I could care less if they had a sub group for every M series camera ever made and would never even voice an opinion on it. hdg Posted May 22, 2009 Share #27 Posted May 22, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I agree, it`s a good idea. But the DMR is out for all the people who had no DMR. That`s the problem. I like my R9+DMR because of the high quality pictures made with it. Starting in July 2005 I never had a problem. May be it it is one of the first and handmade (no. 87). Attached a sample of my last pictures made last year at the occasion of my foto-trip to Utah. It`s a dng-foto developed with CS4. Regards Hans Welcome, dear visitor! stevelap Posted May 22, 2009 Share #29 Posted May 22, 2009 The forum was much smaller then and much more integrated. Times have changed and sometimes it's less straightforward to access the information we seek. Regards, I concur. That was then, this is now. I've copied my earlier post (no.14) from this thread into the 'Suggestions for digital forum' thread (started by Stunsworth) in the 'About the Leica Forum' section, hoping to get some more exposure for this topic. Hopefully Andreas (admin) might drop in there from time to time.
bono0272 Posted May 24, 2009 Author Share #30 Posted May 24, 2009 So no DMR sub-forum is mainly because there are only small amount of DMR users? Well I think this should not be based on the quantity of DMR users but DMR is up till this moment the only digital R product (no adaptor, no converter but directly using R lenses) from Leica so it is worth to set up a sub-forum for it. There are still a lot of new threads being posted in the Digital Forum about DMR.
edlaurpic Posted May 29, 2009 Share #31 Posted May 29, 2009 I don't understand why this debate is continuing. There are obviously plenty of people who use the forum—and subfora—who own and use DMRs and R lenses and many of them would like to have a subforum devoted exclusively to the DMR and R lenses, much as M8 users have. Simply put, what's is the marginal "cost" of setting up a dedicated DMR/R forum? What's the down-side? If, after a couple of months, it ends up having no traffic, it can be shut down. If it becomes a popular place for forum users, they let it be. And it might be that it should survive even the coming of the R10 (or equivalent), or, in the alternative, assuming that the R10 will allow use of R lenses, the R10 can be added to it. I don't think I am unique in owning Leica SM and M film cameras and lenses, M8/M8.2's as well as DMR's (I have three) and R lenses (I think, at last count, I owned ten). I like being able to visit the collectors' forum, the M8 forum, and the digital forum (because I also have an LX3). Am I missing something? Is it going to cost Leica or someone else something extra to have a dedicated DMR/R lens forum?
andybarton Posted May 29, 2009 Share #32 Posted May 29, 2009 Has anyone who wants a DMR sub section PMd Andreas about it?
mhoersch Posted May 30, 2009 Share #33 Posted May 30, 2009 I find it increasingly difficult to find any posts concerning the DMR among the countless "I did it and got a D-Lux 4"-, "Doesn't the Leica case for the D-Lux 4 look great"- and "Which D-Lux 4 should I get, the black or the platinum one?"-posts that completely obliterate the Digital Forum. Perhaps, DMR-Users would profit most if a special D-Lux 4 Forum was set up to make a little room for something else in the Digital Forum?
andybarton Posted May 30, 2009 Share #34 Posted May 30, 2009 The only person who can add a new sub-section is Andreas Have you PMd him?
