he can not fit his Leica M 21/24/28 Auxiliary Finder in the hot shoe.

As I wanted to use my own one too, I am a bit concerned about this.

Does anybody else experience the same problem or could there be a diffennt tolerance on either a black- or chrome M8 ?

TIA

The problem is the foot which slides into the hot-shoe is fractionally too wide to fit between the vertical inside edges of the hot shoe. The foot is 18.7mm wide, the hot shoe width is 18.5mm, maybe 18.6mm wide. The foot can be removed (two screws) and a small amount of metal filed away but of course it will take off the black or chrome finish....

As Michiel says, it will be interesting to hear if anyone else has this problem. I might just be unlucky with mine.

I'm going to email Leica CS.

Marc, forgot to congratulate you with the M8, but I really hold my breath if this is the case with other units too.

(I will start a thread on the german forum too)

Hi there, I have a recent one of these - it fits fine on both of my M8 bodies, not even snug, it definitely needs screwing down.

Mind you, I really don't use it, as the frankenfinder seems to do a better job

Mine was a very tight fit on the M8. I had to apply a trace of light oil on the runners of the foot before I could mount the finder. Oh, and I also discovered that the screw down clamp ring of the finder will gouge the chrome on the top of the camera shoe if it's tightened down too much :( .

I've just got out my micrometer and does some measurements.

The hot shoe width on one chrome body is 18.61mm, the second (black) is 18.71mm and the third (black) is 18.63mm. The width of the foot on the 21/24/28 finder is 18.59mm, the width of the foot on the Frankenfinder is 18.57mm.

All of which supports my experience that the FF is fine on all three bodies, the older finder is tight on one, fine on the other two.

A clearance of 0.01mm one each side is not much - 1/10 of the thickness of a piece of paper. Roughly.

One point of this thread might be that the finder serves well on the M8

for 28mm lenses @ the 21mm setting and

for 35mm lenses @ the 28mm setting only, correct?

Mine fits perfectly too.

"Made in Japan" stamped on the base.
