telewatt Posted July 4, 2006 Share #5 Posted July 4, 2006 Hello Tuna, it is not easy for me to write for this picture....technical it is well done.. but it is only a "joke" picture what you are doing in photagraphic-schools!!..you have the technic to do better pictures!...please, go out to do pictures or do portraits...... this is my opinnion and not a personal fight........(I know germans are so directly some times, but for me it was the better way, I learned a lot and very fast) all the best, Jan

stuny Posted July 4, 2006 Share #7 Posted July 4, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Tuna - I'm glad you're here -- I've missed you work. My initial impression is that I like this photo a lot. Then I read Jan's comment and thought that you might have admired some Duane Michaels work from the 1970s or 1980s. Then I looked again. Michaels MIGHT have influenced you but this is an original, greatly enhanced by including the framed photo in the lower right. A wonderful image in total. tuna Posted July 4, 2006 Author Share #8 Posted July 4, 2006 Gentlemen, thank you for your very kind comments and critique. Gerald - an additional thanks for coaxing me over...this seems like a more open atmosphere in which to mingle. Jan - I understand your feelings regarding parlour tricks in images - but I was inspired to play after reading about the photographic image "Boulevard du Temple" by Daguerre in 1838. At the time, the image was criticized for not showing any human activity on the busy street - this was caused by the extremely long exposure times necessary. All this despite the fact that Daguerre seems to have foreseen the problem and, it is thought, posed a shoe-shine man and stand with shoe-shine customer for the duration of the 20-30 minute exposure as they are the only clearly distinguishable human figures. Robert - I am impressed and humbled that you remember the image as well as the title. Stuart - in the old forum, someone else mentioned Duane Michals work when commenting on this image. I had not heard of him until then and have since taken a look at his haunting images. Tuna
