fotografr Posted April 7, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) There seemed to be some interest in this, so I shot a few more comparisons this morning to show the differences and similarities between the 50mm Summilux pre-ASPH (late version) and the 50mm Summilux ASPH. The main thing I take from this is that the ASPH version is a fantastic lens, but the pre-ASPH version is no slouch.

Michael Hiles Posted April 8, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 8, 2009 IMO they are, for any practical purpose, indistinguishable. Both impressive.

epand56 Posted April 8, 2009 Share #6 Posted April 8, 2009 Brent, thank you very much for taking the time to experiment for the community. Your pictures are not only perfectly clear, but show very well the difference between the two lenses. I loved very much my Lux Asph before, now, thanks to your picture, I realize I have a real gem in my hands. The amazing sharpnes and richnes of detail of this lens really jump to the eye. However, the pre-Asph Lux seems to be a great performer.

fotografr Posted April 8, 2009 Author Share #8 Posted April 8, 2009 One of the most apparent differences to me is that the ASPH version has better edge and corner sharpness. You can see that most clearly in the last two photos.
