I fear you are asking too much. There is a whole library of books on the subject - and it is not complete. Your second option is to use the search function of this forum....

The names don't signify designs, but rather just the maximum aperture of the lens.

Elmar - f/3.8 or f/4

Elmarit - f/2.8

Summarit - f/2.5

Summicron - f/2

Summilux - f/1.4

Noctilux - f/0.95 or f/1

Tri-Elmar means three different focal lengths @ f/4

As far as prices, generally the faster the lens (lower number aperture) the more it costs. Also, the wider focal lengths tend to be more expensive as well.

What is important to remember is that all current M lenses are superb. When you choose a less expensive lens, you are generally just sacrificing speed, not quality. The bottom line is to select lenses that suit your individual needs within your budget.

Hope this helps. Again, if I can offer you specific guidance, I'd be happy to help.

David

I suspect that most of us aspire to Summicron lenses and only dream of Summilux or Noctilux lenses. :o Heck, I've even got two Elmarit lenses that I'm dang proud of.

I just ordered a copy of Leica Lens Practice: Choosing and Using Leica Lenses. Maybe that will teach me more about Leica lenses.

elmart?

trielmart?

Don't forget the famous Leica Walmart! Hardcore Leica fans deny the existence, but just look at the evidence: the previous CEO was Stephen K. Lee, the ex-CEO of Best Buy! There are lots of connections.
