Michael Hiles Posted December 14, 2012 Share #11027 Posted December 14, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is this the caves at Lascaux? The pictures look like prehistoric cave art.
thighslapper Posted December 14, 2012 Share #11028 Posted December 14, 2012 No Lascaux is closed to the public. The cave you can enter there is a reproduction. This is one of the few that contains substantial amounts of original cave art that visitors (in restricted numbers) can still see.....
Michael Hiles Posted December 14, 2012 Share #11029 Posted December 14, 2012 OK. Michael's Pyrennes and Google+Wikipedia (but not experience) suggest the Caves of Altimira in Spain.
dcoombs Posted December 15, 2012 Share #11030 Posted December 15, 2012 Is this the one in Les Eyzies? I was there in 1989, but don't remember any big sculpture. Doug
thighslapper Posted December 15, 2012 Share #11031 Posted December 15, 2012 No. Altimira is also closed to visitors.... It is not in Spain Famous for its paintings of Bison....

otto.f Posted December 15, 2012 Share #11035 Posted December 15, 2012 Alors c'est Niaux!
thighslapper Posted December 16, 2012 Share #11036 Posted December 16, 2012 Correct.... at last..... Well done Otto .... over to you.... Niaux is a fair detour from the normal tourist destinations in this area but is WELL WORTH a visit ...... the cave complex is amazing and the paintings in the 'Salon Noir' are stunning .... there is very little of this quality and quantity that is still viewable by the general public .... and only here because the paintings are in a large gallery a long way from the entrance, so the humidity, oxygen/carbon dioxide levels and temperature are stable and uninfluenced by the limited visitor numbers.....
otto.f Posted December 16, 2012 Share #11037 Posted December 16, 2012 Thanks, thighslapper! This looks like an arty chimney of a nuclear plant, but what is it really and where is it?
