Gaal Posted June 1, 2011 Share #7583 Posted June 1, 2011 (edited) MMMM not many clues I don't think the Forbiden city was open to the public in that period (though not sure) but let's stay in Beijing, Not sure the Lama temple was open either, so how about the Confucius Temple, anyway one of the three mentionned unless only one answer per post, in that case Confucius ! Dates already mentionned. Edited June 1, 2011 by Gaal
dcoombs Posted June 2, 2011 Share #7584 Posted June 2, 2011 Very close. Country and city, yes. Gaal, you may want to reassess your assumptions. And the date is earlier than one would guess. Doug

dcoombs Posted June 2, 2011 Share #7587 Posted June 2, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have to be away for a few days, so won't be able to respond. Don't want to slow things up, so I award it to Gaal. He was almost there. It was taken in the Forbidden City, in 1979. People still wore very subdued clothes. Tourism hadn't really appeared then, but one could get in. Westerners were viewed as a curiousity, but people were friendly (if shy). I took this picture with a IIIG (and 50mm summicron), my only camera in those days. It's always been a favorite of mine (the picture, that is). Cheers, Doug
Gaal Posted June 2, 2011 Share #7588 Posted June 2, 2011 (edited) Thank you Doug, I was so sure the Forbiden City, was forbiden even under Mao's rule, that I automatically ruled it out. So here we go It is a castle and has a name Good luck to all Welcome, dear visitor! Michael Geschlecht Posted June 2, 2011 Share #7589 Posted June 2, 2011 Hello Gaal, I think we might be in Scotland. Best Regards, Michael
Gaal Posted June 3, 2011 Share #7590 Posted June 3, 2011 Hi Michael, True, it has a scottish feeling, I thing the stones and color look like a plaid pattern. But is is not Scotland. And to be very respectful to some of our friends living on that big and beautiful Island, I would not dare say: "But at least Michael, you did hit the right continent". spylaw4 Posted June 3, 2011 Share #7591 Posted June 3, 2011 I would be surprised if it was Scotland, the style just isn't right and we usually use stone and not many bricks. Hmm - England, perhaps?
Gaal Posted June 3, 2011 Share #7592 Posted June 3, 2011 I would be surprised if it was Scotland, the style just isn't right and we usually use stone and not many bricks. Hmm - England, perhaps? Just need to cross the channel !
esquire53 Posted June 3, 2011 Share #7593 Posted June 3, 2011 So crossing the Irish channel makes it Ireland, but Republic or Northern ... I vote for Republic of Ireland Uwe
gearoido Posted June 3, 2011 Share #7594 Posted June 3, 2011 Wouldn't "across the channel" be Normandy or Brittany rather than Ireland? I'm guessing France as the country. GaryO
Gaal Posted June 3, 2011 Share #7595 Posted June 3, 2011 (edited) The country borders France And yes some of us considers the channel to include part od the North sea as well, all depends where you live. Same as continents, some consider Amerca as one, other divide it in 2. But you are getting closer. So if it is tuesday it has to be : Gaal Edited June 3, 2011 by Gaal

Gaal Posted June 4, 2011 Share #7597 Posted June 4, 2011 It sure is If it's tuesday it must be Belgium ! If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Now where in Belgium, not that easy even for a Belgian, so let's give a hint: Something to do indirectly with Egypt. gearoido Posted June 4, 2011 Share #7598 Posted June 4, 2011 Is it a home of the Belgian railway man, Baron Empain? GaryO
Gaal Posted June 5, 2011 Share #7599 Posted June 5, 2011 It is not the house of Baon Empain, though it is the house of a Belgian man, who was awarded a title froma kong from Egypt. And his time was around the Suez canal opening. And as I see not many of you are getting involved, et me tell you that the castle is about 40 Km from Brussels. I will not tell you yet, if it belongs to the Flemish or the Wallon's side. Gaal
vertekijker Posted June 5, 2011 Share #7600 Posted June 5, 2011 I knew from the first that this looked like a place in Belgium and I would have guessed Empain as well. Is it in the Walloon part? In the province of 'Waals Brabant' maybe? ----------- Frans
