otto.f Posted September 19, 2017 Share #17121 Posted September 19, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Seventeen Bows Bridge? I googled that. But the bridge itself, although not easy recognizable because B&W is always a bit more difficult, I must have vaguely remembered from our visit of China in 2014. I'll post something tonight Edited September 19, 2017 by otto.f

Michael Hiles Posted September 19, 2017 Share #17122 Posted September 19, 2017 Exactly right. If you walk to the left from the main buildings along the lake front you get to the bridge in about 500 metres. I had seen pictures before we visited - but seeing the real thing was very special.
Michael Geschlecht Posted September 19, 2017 Share #17123 Posted September 19, 2017 Hello Michael, When was that bridge built, or/& when was it upgraded to its current form?Best Regards, Michael
Michael Hiles Posted September 20, 2017 Share #17124 Posted September 20, 2017 Connecting the eastern shore of Kunming Lake and Nanhu Island in the west, the Seventeen-Arch Bridge was built during the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1711.-1799).It has a length of 150 meters and a width of 8 meters. I don't believe it has been modified since. The Summer Palace is absolutely a must see in Beijing.

Michael Geschlecht Posted September 21, 2017 Share #17128 Posted September 21, 2017 (edited) Hello Otto, I think that the opposite end of the World from California might be somewhere in the Indian Ocean off the Coast of Africa. Your photo looks too dry to be there. I would guess that Japan might be closer? anickpick Posted September 27, 2017 Share #17139 Posted September 27, 2017 (edited) All right, I'd say it's close enough: Statue of Father Damian Molokai St. Joseph's church, Kamalo It is on the other side of the Island: Kalaupapa is located on the Kalaupapa Peninsula at the base of some of the highest sea cliffs in the world; they rise 2,000 feet (610 m) above the Pacific Ocean. In the 1870s a community to support the leper colony was established here; the legislature required people with severe cases to be quarantined on this island in the hope of preventing contagious transmission of the disease. The area has been preserved as the Kalaupapa Leprosy Settlement and National Historical Park, which takes in the entire County. Now your turn!
