stuny Posted July 6, 2015 Share #15221 Posted July 6, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Interesting. It is in the US, it is in New jersey, and it is in the same county at Summit. It is a colonial building with historic significance, and Stephen gave a sly and clever hint.

stuny Posted July 7, 2015 Share #15224 Posted July 7, 2015 Lars - Correct. Washington used it for winter encampment during the snowiest winter on record. Both sides of the war encamped until roads were passable, which didn't happen until June in 1777 (or was it 1779?). Your turn

sls Posted July 8, 2015 Share #15228 Posted July 8, 2015 Remind me not to go to Bavaria. That is truly horrible ... was it designed by committee? ... but a well framed and lit image.
larsv Posted July 8, 2015 Share #15229 Posted July 8, 2015 It is a bit over the top, isn't it...
sls Posted July 9, 2015 Share #15230 Posted July 9, 2015 I hate Roccocco. It's ugly and I can't spell it. There is a term for that style of architecture. "Style" is a bit generous. Is it Bavarian Baroque? Less is more, I say.
larsv Posted July 9, 2015 Share #15231 Posted July 9, 2015 Bavarian baroque it is.
thighslapper Posted July 12, 2015 Share #15232 Posted July 12, 2015 (edited) Asamkirche, Munich. Luckily we were there only a few weeks ago ..... unfortunately it is gated and locked between services ...... and you can't really enter and take photos when it is in use .... Edited July 12, 2015 by thighslapper
larsv Posted July 12, 2015 Share #15233 Posted July 12, 2015 Muchen is correct, but not Asamkirche. Though I can see the similarities. This one was built from 1583-1597 and is being viewed (from what I have read) as the most important Renaissance church of Germany. Pretty close to the Frauenkirche.
