stunsworth Posted January 16, 2012 Share #9441 Posted January 16, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm sure at least one beer is drunk every day in Belgium <grin>, but the events that lead to the ceremony (another clue) being instated happened in the decade before the 1920s (another clue). jaapv Posted January 16, 2012 Share #9444 Posted January 16, 2012 Actually, it is Ieper, as it is in West Vlaanderen, but the French speaking Belgians call it Ypres - don't tread on Flemish toes - it is a minefield -in both senses of the word. Michael Hiles Posted January 17, 2012 Share #9454 Posted January 17, 2012 (I need to get out more). I would like to know where this bronze is found. A little more detail than just the city. Michael Hiles Posted January 17, 2012 Share #9456 Posted January 17, 2012 Good guess for a bunch of reasons - but wrong. These bronzes are, however, modern. Post WWII.
esquire53 Posted January 17, 2012 Share #9457 Posted January 17, 2012 but a pope?
Michael Hiles Posted January 18, 2012 Share #9458 Posted January 18, 2012 Interesting thought - I don't know. The mitre indicates a Bishop, but in this case it may be a generic bishop, the mitre being part of the iconography. However... this bronze has strong links to the Papacy and a Pope. pop Posted January 18, 2012 Share #9459 Posted January 18, 2012 My first thought was "Swift".
vertekijker Posted January 18, 2012 Share #9460 Posted January 18, 2012 Looks like it refers to some historical event, with the people on the right coming out of some dark netherworld and ascending to a more pleasant existence... 'heaven'? Maybe the church's take on some dreadful event like WWII, holocaust? Part of a memorial? ---------------- Frans
