geaibleu Posted January 30, 2011 Share #6885 Posted January 30, 2011 Dead on! Kudos to you. Hatra (al-Hadr ) is one of the 3 World Heritage Centre in Iraq along with Samarra and Ashur Incidentally, much to my surprise and chagrin, the location has been removed from Google Earth maps, and that part of Iraq looks terribly empty. No doubt that the invading military is responsible... Over to you Dirk.
Dirk Van der Herten Posted January 30, 2011 Share #6886 Posted January 30, 2011 Thank you, geaibleu, that was a very interesting location to look for. Most probably some important military secrets are burried under those ancient buildings. Let's stay in Antiquity for the next assignment. Welcome, dear visitor! Dirk Van der Herten Posted January 31, 2011 Share #6894 Posted January 31, 2011 Indeed this is the great hypostyle hall of the temple of Karnak in Thebes (modern Luxor). It was built by Seti I, but Ramses II at a later date had his name written on all the pillars. The cartouche in the photo reads "User-maat-re Setep-en-re", which was his throne name, accompanied the title nesu-bity, "King of Upper and Lower Egypt", as to the right of the cartouche. Your suggestion is very graceful, Gaal, but since you gave a correct answer to all three elements of the question, the turn goes to you.
