bobs Posted November 23, 2008 Share #21 Posted November 23, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) As a Resident of Melbourne and frequent visitor to Camera Exchange I would recommend them without hesitation. You may aslo like to try Madsens in Sydney who also have some Leica R gear including R series. With all due respect I would suggest that you leave the R3 alone and as a minimum select the R4/R4S or better still the R6.2. I have had a R4S since new and have had no trouble with it despite it having travelled many, many thousands of miles with me. For a lens go for the f2 Summicron as it is nice & light. If you can stretch the money look for a Motor Winder Regards Bob Showers

jlancasterd Posted November 23, 2008 Share #23 Posted November 23, 2008 Ruhayat Having lived and worked (and used Leica R cameras) in Malaysia* for several years myself, I'd definitely recommend getting either the R6 or the R6.2 - preferably the latter as I believe it incorporates several internal design improvements over the R6 as well as the increased top shutter speed. One of the problems you will have already encountered, if you do much photography out in the ulu, is that of high humidity, and mechanical cameras are much more resistant to the problems caused by humidity than those that rely on electronics. An R6/6.2 is still useable even if the meter shorts out. *actually Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei
topoxforddoc Posted November 23, 2008 Share #24 Posted November 23, 2008 Personally I would go for the SL2 and if that's too big, the R6.2 Charlie

An R6/6.2 is still useable even if the meter shorts out. Hmm. Good thought. This argument, plus the number of votes for the M6.2 means I have some serious pondering to do. It's within my budget now, but for the same money -- plus a fair bit of change -- I could also have an acceptable R4S with a backup camera (the R3). I fancy the M4S(P) mainly due to the Aperture Priority, a feature which I find helpful in fast moving situations; and the R3 because, well, there's one going for US$90! Plus, they are lighter. But the R6 and 6.2 are newer cameras that also seem more robust. There's also the AE mode, apparently, although I don't tend to find that to be as useful. Thanks again for the responses. Photoskeptic Posted November 23, 2008 Share #26 Posted November 23, 2008 If you must have an R, get the 6.2. I had a 5 and while it did everything I asked of it, it wasn't near the camera my NIKON FN2 was. There are several posters here who still shoot the 6.2 and their images are usually impressive and they swear by the body. Good luck in your search. jlancasterd Posted November 23, 2008 Share #28 Posted November 23, 2008 Hi everybody, I wonder if someone could kindly advise me where I could find a really mint R6.2 (no e-Bay please). Paul Which country are you in? In UK, Ffordes (https://secure.ffordes.com/index.htm) have two R6.2s marked 'E+' for £599 in their secondhand list at the moment. rubenkok Posted November 23, 2008 Share #29 Posted November 23, 2008 Hi Ruhayat, Have a look here: Schouten Select Cameras & Accessories! Hope this is some help, Ruben
Ruhayat Posted November 23, 2008 Author Share #30 Posted November 23, 2008 Thanks, Ruben. Atournas: KEH currently have a couple of R6.2 which they describe as "Excellent". They have only two standards, it seems: Excellent and "Bargain", but I have never bought from them before so have no idea if "Excellent" means mint. EDIT: Yowch... Atournas, you might want to click the link Ruben provided above. The camera looks almost brand new to me. Pricey, though.
Photoskeptic Posted November 24, 2008 Share #31 Posted November 24, 2008 I have used KEH many times. Never been disappointed. They also have a decent return policy.

Pricey, though. That is more of a collector's item than a camera to use - and priced accordingly:o
