cbretteville Posted September 3, 2009 Author Share #81 Posted September 3, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Plan to join you. I'd hate to miss an opportunity in our neck of the European woods. Direct air schedule is Air Malta Athens-Malta on Friday the 16th (arrive 08:20); return late Monday (depart 20th Tuesday at 00:45). Plan on the Victoria as we can get a package deal. Would appreciate any comments about length of stay and hotel preference. Thanks and see you all there. Michael, We're, like the Bartons, staying at the Victoria. Good deal I thought. You may consider joining the fun on Saturday evening too. Have a look in this thread: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/forum-member-meetings/93931-malta-one-challenge-dinner-saturday-anyone.html Cheers, - Carl
Advertisement Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Hi cbretteville, Take a look here Malta - The One Challenge Europe 2009, October 17th. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
StS Posted September 3, 2009 Share #82 Posted September 3, 2009 Victoria as well for me. I'll arrive 14th in the evening with Swiss 4370 and will pick up a rental car, in case anyone arrives around the same time frame and needs a lift to the city. earleygallery Posted September 10, 2009 Share #84 Posted September 10, 2009 Should we run a book on how many M9's will be there this year?
bill Posted September 10, 2009 Share #85 Posted September 10, 2009 Should we run a book on how many M9's will be there this year? How things change...! As I recall, I was the first to use a digital camera for a One Challenge - the first, in London all those years ago. Indeed I was the only one using a digital camera that year! I might use my LC-1 again this year for old time's sake Regards, Bill
earleygallery Posted September 10, 2009 Share #86 Posted September 10, 2009 Indeed Bill, I recall the excitement it caused, especially the pop up flash! I used my R3 that year, thinking of using it again, or possibly going completely mad and digging out the Panny D1! Decisions decisions......
erl Posted September 10, 2009 Share #87 Posted September 10, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) For some time I have been quietly working towards joining you all at Malta this year but on probability I won't now, because I probably will channel the AUD$2500+ air fare into an M9. There are other issues as well. My next resolve is to make it next year which then establishes my participation on a biennial basis. Making it closer to (my) home would be a great advantage. I have had an offer to travel to India which is an additional complication. I can do two India trips for the price of one Malta trip so you see my agony. I will definitely have anxiety pangs around 2pm on October 17 and regret not being with you all but look forward to torturing myself looking at your posts from Malta as they go up. StS Posted September 10, 2009 Share #88 Posted September 10, 2009 Hi John, I'm sorry to hear this. Maybe you get a chance next year to spend the Złoty you won last year ... One very strong contestant missing this year... Stefan

erl Posted September 10, 2009 Share #91 Posted September 10, 2009 ...2010 Challenge in Melbourne? I always wanted to check, whether you guys hang upside down... Absolutely, and we sleep in trees upsidedown, just like bats. That's why it takes soooo long to travel anywhere in order to recalibrate our 'body compass' and learn not to spill our beer in the northern hemisphere. andybarton Posted September 10, 2009 Share #92 Posted September 10, 2009 You didn't have any worries with the beer in Krakow, Erl...
erl Posted September 10, 2009 Share #93 Posted September 10, 2009 Ah yes Andy, but you weren't there during the days before the Challenge when I was practicing. I washed the streets with spillage!
andybarton Posted September 10, 2009 Share #94 Posted September 10, 2009 Meet me at the Golden Gate next Autumn, then, and I will buy you the spillage back...
erl Posted September 10, 2009 Share #95 Posted September 10, 2009 Re Hong Kong & San Fran, I can contemplate. I am thinking of Venice as another possibility if votes are being taken for the 2010 venue. Another serious suggestion from me is to try a night challenge. I reckon that has great potential for stunning images.
erl Posted September 10, 2009 Share #96 Posted September 10, 2009 I think The Golden Gate could be just on the 'balance point'. Might be a contest with 'who spills the most.'

I reckon that has great potential for stunning images. Venice at night would be the "perfect storm" You get my vote now Love it. A night challenge could be just what we need to move things on. But, let's get Valletta out of the way first...
cbretteville Posted September 11, 2009 Author Share #98 Posted September 11, 2009 Venice sounds nice. As does a night challenge. A combo? I had the idea that we could do one at one in the morning in northern Norway during summer with (the posibility of) midnight sun. The light is just like nothing else. There is also the middle of winter with perpetual darkness option, but probably not as attractive . Cost is on another level though and becomes a real wet blanket. - Carl
erl Posted September 11, 2009 Share #99 Posted September 11, 2009 Venice can be a 'wet blanket' too, if you fall in the the water!. Thinks of the Goon Show (Nostalgia). But Who cares!!! I've just been offered an M9 First in Oz ?? That definitely blew my "Malta" money. Clearly I had a premonition. Unfortunately, so did my wife. I will post a separate thread on that in the forum later though. I would really love to 'sport my new M9' at Malta for you guys but finances, finances. Sandokan Posted September 11, 2009 Share #100 Posted September 11, 2009 I will have to drop out - taxes higher than I expected this year. So sorry guys, I was looking forward to seeing you all (and probably on same flight as Stefan) and visiting Malta for the first time. Ah well, Venice or Scandinavia (Denmark is cheaper than Norway I think) next year.
