Luigi, I do not know the english for it but brass (& copper) can turn green over time and I guess some of that crept up into the white lettering.

It is named verdigris, You have some too in the front top edges, you can remove it using a soft cloth and lighter fluid ( also a little elbow grease )

M2 black is always a fascinating view... just for curios, how is that in the pic the engraved s/n looks green-painted ?

The serial numbers on M3, M2 and M4's are cut directly, trough the black paint, into the brass. The logo is not, it is stamped in during the manufacturing process and is filled in with white paint after the top cover is painted black. Because the serial number is cut into the brass, the white paint is colored green by the oxydation of the brass.

A little off topic I know, but did anyone else see the black paint M2 that was on ePrey earlier this week? There were two awful photos of it (both well out of focus) and it appeared to show more brass than paint! The seller 'had it valued by a specialist photographic auctioneer at US$5500' yet pulled the auction before it finished...

There seems to be many black M2's out there in Sweden.

Erik.

Hello Erik,

Thanks for the explanation of the Logo/number oxidation. Yes, there are quite a few over here. This is the sixth I have found from private persons (I own two now) and there are five or six offered every year on the Swedish photographica auctions.

Best,
