spylaw4 Posted November 23, 2008 Author Share #28 Posted November 23, 2008 I'll post any Northern Line closures that affect Old Street and and Circle/Met/ H'smith line ones that affect Barbican a day or so beforehand. There's always the buses - 55 (Oxford Circus - somewhere in the wilds); 243 (Waterloo - likewise) pass the door. Loads of other buses pass N-S or S-N through Old St. roundabout. spylaw4 Posted November 24, 2008 Author Share #29 Posted November 24, 2008 Update on the Tube planned works for 29/30 November. Looks like the Metropolitan line will be closed between Harrow and Aldgate, but the Circle and H'smith lines will be ok. Northern line not affected. BTW if you are planning to come by car, there are parking restrictions around Red Dot up to 1:30 pm on a Saturday, although there are meters. For free parking you need to go north of City Road into LBHackney.
farnz Posted November 24, 2008 Share #30 Posted November 24, 2008 Thanks, Brian. (Personally I'll take the 10 minutes stroll from Farringdon station east along Clerkenwell Road and into Old Street and perhaps take some pictures of St John's Gate on the way for others who might find this handy.) spylaw4 Posted November 28, 2008 Author Share #32 Posted November 28, 2008 Looking forward to seeing all those who are coming, and sorry to hear of the "drop-outs! BTW - if anyone is intending to come by car and use the Barbican Carparks, Ropemaker Street and Moor Lane are to be subject to weekend closures this weekend. No doubt alternative routes will be signposted. I remind folks to look at post #29 above!
veraikon Posted November 28, 2008 Share #33 Posted November 28, 2008 if anyone is intending to come by car driving with a car through London - it is one of my nightmares
earleygallery Posted November 28, 2008 Share #34 Posted November 28, 2008 Time for a bump! Looking forward to this one, I've booked my ticket on line and saved a massive £1.50 (may as well). See you all at Red Dot!
spylaw4 Posted November 28, 2008 Author Share #35 Posted November 28, 2008 Tube travellers please note ..... I have just found out that Northern Line (Bank branch - the branch for Old Street) trains will not be stopping at King's Cross this weekend 29/30 November ! Those considering travelling by tube to Old Street who were intending to change @ KC from the Piccadilly, Victoria or Circle/H'smith lines should do a swift re-plan and change at Euston from the Victoria/Charing X branch of the Northern Line instead. If using the Circle/H'smith proceed on to Barbican. Sorry for the late notice!
farnz Posted November 28, 2008 Share #36 Posted November 28, 2008 As promised here's the schedule for the meeting on Saturday November 29: Meet at Red Dot Cameras 11:00 am - close to jn. Old St/Central St./Golden Lane - Red Dot Cameras: nearest tube Old St (Northern line, Bank branch) or Barbican (Circle, Metropolitan lines) - check for weekend route closures; buses 55 or 243 along Old St., and various other routes along Aldersgate St. and City Road. Further details here. I've asked Ivor if he can try to get samples of the new lenses for us to try on the day. Depart Red Dot at around 11:30 - 11:45 am going right on exit and wandering by a circuitous route across the Golden Lane estate and Smithfield to the Rising Sun PH for lunch. It's in Cloth Fair next to St Bartholomew's Church. After lunch the intention is for us to proceed to the Barbican and visit the Robert Capa exhibition. I will be investigating the possibility of a group (discount) booking and post here later. Area map here. Just thought I'd re-post Brian's post since I wanted to check the meeting times and had to look further than I'd expected. Looking forward to seeing everyone! (The weather promises to be cool but dry so, after today's weather, that's excellent news. ) Pete.

Great company, good conversation, an interesting exhibition and then more talk afterwards in a convivial atmosphere. Thanks again to Brian for organising and especially Ivor for his generosity in using his shop as an initial meeting point - and to Leica for my shiny new jacket :-) LouisB
