Abhinava Goswami Posted September 26, 2008 Share #1 Posted September 26, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was just wondering that will Leica stop making new film cameras in M system or they will introduce something new like Nikon came out with F6. Advertisement Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Hi Abhinava Goswami, Take a look here Leica M7 . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
kenneth Posted September 26, 2008 Share #2 Posted September 26, 2008 I do not think Leica will abandon the film market. I would assume that they will continue to run the M7 for quite a time yet. But would it be the end of the world if they did? assuming you already have one
timd. Posted September 26, 2008 Share #3 Posted September 26, 2008 i heard they're still building three film m-models a day. not very many, but enough to show the enthusiasts that the legend is still alive.

wilfredo Posted September 26, 2008 Share #5 Posted September 26, 2008 I don't think we will ever see another analogue M camera. Perhaps some tweaking of the M7 but that's it. However, the used market will remain healthy for years to come - I suspect. Wilfredo+ Benitez-Rivera Photography
andybarton Posted September 26, 2008 Share #6 Posted September 26, 2008 If the Market is 3 per day, then they won't bother making another model. With exception of putting in the R9 shutter to get higher speeds ( which may not be an improvement ) it's hard to see what else they can do with it. antistatic Posted September 26, 2008 Share #8 Posted September 26, 2008 Autofocus :D :D Don't stop there. How about 51 point 3D predictive AF (whatever that means), matrix metering and image stabilization. The M7.2 is going to be a hell of a camera. erl Posted September 27, 2008 Share #9 Posted September 27, 2008 I heard a much overlooked rumour from Photokina that Leica is experimenting with a left handed M7 prototype (aimed at the proliferation of 'left eyed photog's), simply as a test idea to be adapted to the M9. It will be an 'alacarte option of course!
guywalder Posted September 27, 2008 Share #10 Posted September 27, 2008 With exception of putting in the R9 shutter to get higher speeds ( which may not be an improvement ). Heaven Forbid! the shutter is the best part of the M7...
budrichard Posted September 27, 2008 Share #11 Posted September 27, 2008 The Nikon F6 is not new and is not in production at this time. The F6 is Nikon's last film camera, period. I purchased a Nikon Fm3a just after Nikon stopped production. AUTO shutter with a manual shutter with all speeds if not battery! Quite a nice film Nikon. The Leica M7 may be made in small quantities for a while but it will never be changed. No auto focus, no R9 shutter. no nothing. I have two M7's and will not purchase another film camera. The way is clear, digital is here and most probably a medium format digital camera format will survive for professional work other than news/sports where the FX format will be the norm. DX will eventually die or stay on as a strictly amateur format.-Dick
earleygallery Posted September 27, 2008 Share #12 Posted September 27, 2008 Do the need to improve upon the M7/MP? Without a total rethink of the M system its hard to see how much they could improve upon. Didn't Dr Kaufmann make some comment about it being easier to design a totally new digital M system than trying to fit around the existing camera design?....... J Mitchum Posted September 29, 2008 Share #14 Posted September 29, 2008 I imagine they will produce limited editions of some sort from time to time.
wizard Posted September 29, 2008 Share #15 Posted September 29, 2008 They should revive the M3, plus built-in light meter that is. I'd buy one on the spot (though I have to admit an MP 0.85 isn't far apart). Andy
octo Posted September 29, 2008 Share #16 Posted September 29, 2008 I bought a second hand M7 this Summer and I am curious about the year of manufacture: n° 2782800; I was guessing 2006: anybody knows? I am considering using it for The One Challenge. TIA.
