I know these things are under a NDA so please not trying to upset the barrell but at least it is a good image and reason i processed it and posted it, if you have a issue with that than don't look. It is that simple and for the record i am not under a NDA. although i wish i was given the chance to test this becuase i have a lot of experience with the DMR and this baby is looking very good.

You can download 3.75 it has been available for a few weeks i belive. i downloaded it yesterday for Mac

Even though I promised to keep my mouth shut, the temptation is too great. Interesting observation

*The EXIF file indicates that the girl picture was taken with a lens of maximum aperture F1.

Sorry for this bit of misinformation. The girl picture was taken with an uncoded lens. When an uncoded lens is used the EXIF value defaults to F1.0. Not a brilliant piece of software design but hey, the pictures

The worst thing about having this sample image is that I can't wait to get my hands on the actual camera, which for financial reasons (let alone supply issues) will have to be in a couple of months.

If this is only beta firmware, then Leica has certainly gotten the image quality right at least at the low-middle ISO range.

No one has commented that these are TEN 10MB files!

The DMR had 19MB files for the RAW. It may be that there is something else going on. The M8 literature clearly states thatb 16-bit RAW will be this size 10 MB

The DMR guide says 21MB (varies with the details in Pix) and 29MB TIFF

So these HAVE to be a different format from DMR

I wonder how the DNG specification handles this in meta data

anyway, it may be that the ACR doesnt have the M8 spec yet or cannot interpret the meta data to set for the correct de-compression.

not bad image from M8 POV. Lousy photo though LOL The lady deserves better!

Hi There - this is my first post, so hello everybody!

Like everybody else I've downloaded the DNG file of the girl, I've also processed it in CS2 and printed it at A3 size - it certainly looks splendid.

As far as Aperture is concerned, as expected (sadly) it doesn't recognise the .DNG file - presumably this is Apple's fault? Maybe they'll fix it with 1.5, but I think it's a rash hope.

Best wishes to all

kind regards

Very nice. Both the shot and the woman; I think she holds up very well even at 100%. 8-)

Now I would like to see a well-exposed shot at 1250, if anyone has one, both RAW and processed through C1. Not to get cranky about it.

Victor,

The image part of the M8 files must be compressed (this is an option within all file formats derived from TIFF. The rest of the data format can still be tha same in theory.

My D2 produces raw files at almost the same size. I'm really glad Leica finally did this, the extra cpu needed isn't that much and it saves a lot of space.

Poor woman, if she knew the detail of this shot she would of never agreed to her picture being taken.

Hey, give her a break. I think she looks pretty darn good--even blown up full screen.

More importantly, I think the file looks fantastic. Come on, Leica. Start shipping them!!

Capture One stomps Adobe, IMHO. There goes another $500. I know this whole digital business is just a Ponzi scheme.

BTW the link to "woman" DNG file has been removed from the blog site (both "first" and "second" DNG links now only point to the mobile phone image).

However the woman-image DNG is still available online. Here's the direct link:

http://www.lightmediation.com/blog/podcast/kina/L9994925.DNG (10.1MB)

Also, an older version of DCraw converted the RAW files just fine. So you don't need to upgrade every RAW Converter program to view these things :?)

One thing we have all overlooked is this is mixed lighting at best and the WB on it is really pretty good. i did nothing to the file when I processed it in C1 and it and it came up really nice.

Speaking generally, if a person did happen to have to have a RAW file from an M8 I would *strongly* recommend converting it in C1 before forming any opinion about it. Just because a program can convert a given file doesn't mean that it will do it justice. You know...again, just generally speaking.

Cheers,

Sean
