I just found this link on RFF. That seems to be just the thing. Now if everybody sent them a mail to ask about Leica M8 adapters, they might consider making one!

I just saw this great product.

Are you planning at one point to provided plates to fit the Leica M8 battery?

I don't think that is the case here -they only need to make a $ 4.99 plate. The unit itself is universal.
..it's still about production and $'s .canon supplies the numbers

I've been talking to Delkin for many months now about this. It was supposed to be released in March. I contacted them 3 weeks ago and my email was forwarded to a manager who never replied. My guess is they dropped the whole idea.

A better charger that works on the M8 battery (I've had one for a couple months) and doesn't need any plates:

Ansmann Digicharger Vario

VERY interesting - why weren't we told? Could you possibly post a picture of the charger with the battery in place? Also if you're able to share what information it gives about partial charge / full charge + how long to fully charge?

Thanks

Hmm - just found this at:

Ansmann Digi Charger VARIO for Li-Ion and Li-Polymer -

There's also a picture of it in use... looks a tad strange, but great if it works - also only £26.24!

I note that they say

Ansmann has developed the ultimate universal charger that can charge nearly all types of rechargeable Li-ion battery packs (3.7-7.4V) for digital cameras & camcorders. Furthermore the charger can charge Ni-MH / Ni-Cd AA / AAA cells.

The charger starts every charge cycle by detecting which type of battery it will be charging (within no more than 10 seconds).

With the charger comes different universal adaptors for various battery types. There are adapters for Li-ion battery packs, and there is an adaptor for AA /AAA batteries. The charger itself - the so-called "base unit" - is also compatible with a series of different battery packs (with no extra adapters)

This indicates that it does need a shoe of some kind?

I've ordered one from Adorama. We'll see how it works next week.

Interesting, but are the Ansmann and Delkin + their cables, mains adapter etc. more compact and easier to pack than the original Leica one, which although bulky does at least not need a mains cable?

I don't think that either of these have mains adaptors as separate bricks - the delight for me would be something that I could use for both the M8 + 5D. Not having to carry for both systems would be a real help...

The Adorama advert for the Ansmann shows a mains adapter with cable.

A closer look at the Delkin (try "Learn more") indicates that it comes with a mains plug adapter (US,EU,UK) which I guess might be rather along the lines of the Leica charger.

Now if Delkin would supply the adapters separately..... ? Travel solved!

Now my question is, Which 2 of the 4 contacts on the battery are the + & -.

Hmm.... I looked at the Anamann website. For the Digicharger plus, more than 120 possibilities ANSMANN AG: Digicharger Plus here is the PFD with different configurations, no Leica :(

How to use the Digicharger Vario : ANSMANN AG: Digicharger Vario .....eludes me. Who can help:confused:
