andybarton Posted October 9, 2008 Author Share #181 Posted October 9, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Bill I know you. You'd hate it. Nasty Polish beer, horrible Italian wine, rubbish Bresaola, disgusting lasagne. I don't recommend it at all. But I've booked for tomorrow night, just to make sure it's not a one-off

earleygallery Posted October 9, 2008 Share #184 Posted October 9, 2008 I'm here! Arrived this afternoon, got the train into town and then a taxi to the hotel. Was all a bit of a rush this morning, I reset my alarm but it didn't go off:eek: Anyway weather is nice for time of year, just sat outside a bar drinking. Its every bit a good as I remember from my last visit, and still 'inexpensive' - beer 1.50 a pint. Looking forward to Saturday. Was still undecided about what camera/lens to take this morning and I'm already regretting not bringing one lens with me........

StS Posted October 9, 2008 Share #188 Posted October 9, 2008 In which case I better bring a torch and 20% of my umbrella.. :D The way they say it in German leaves it open to interpretation, whether there is a 20% chance it will rain, or whether it will rain for 20% of the time... StS Posted October 12, 2008 Share #194 Posted October 12, 2008 I agree with Robert, it was fun again and would like to join to thank James for the organization of the dinner and Andy for taking care of the Challenge, finally all 'Challengers' for making it happen. Summing up my experience, I joined a (not too competitive) competition, could discuss photography without anyone getting bored, shared a very nice dinner, some laughs and beers and learned my first words in Finnish and Norwegian. Krakow is definitely worth a trip. I can recommend the Empik store, which is actually a book store but runs a very good and fast photo service. Finally, I made the experience using x-ray shielding bags can actually increase the exposure to x-rays. Security at Krakow airport scanned by bag twice, since they couldn't identify the x-ray protection bag on the X-ray.... Stefan Welcome, dear visitor! spylaw4 Posted October 13, 2008 Share #195 Posted October 13, 2008 My thanks also to James for arranging two excellent meeting venues - both of which can be seen below, and for arranging such good weather on Saturday; Andy for administering the Challenge; and for all the participants for making it once again such a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. andybarton Posted October 13, 2008 Author Share #196 Posted October 13, 2008 Got back at around 1am this morning, on a delayed flight with a shed load of people whe clearly go out on a Saturday morning, don't have a hotel room, so stay out all night, carry on drinking until final call, and then generally lower the tone on the plane. Not pleasant - and a letter to EasyJet in order to understand their policy of letting drunks on planes... Apart from that we had a really great weekend all round. Even got a guided tour INSIDE Schindler's Factory via a security guard on be main gate, which was very interesting. Great to see everyone there again, and I look forward to seeing the results along with everyone else!
stunsworth Posted October 13, 2008 Share #197 Posted October 13, 2008 it's still sunny in Krakow. I'm sat in a cafe on the main square drinking a cold beer. Had a great time on Saturday and can't wait to see the entries to the competition. Lunch has just arrived, so time to eat

octo Posted October 13, 2008 Share #199 Posted October 13, 2008 Had a lot less problem coming back than going in. I gave the film soon after getting off the plane yesterday and I am about to leave the office to pick up the contact sheet. It's been a great pleasure again to see everyone; wish there could have been more (Bill & Hsin & ...). Remember, this is not a club, this is an experience where we all share the same conditions and both veteran and novice stand equal chance; it's fun, you meet dedicated people from all horizons, the discussions are both entertaining and informative, lots of lenses on the table to play with (for M8 owners, specifically). Look foward to the short list of next year's destination, vote and come and join us! Best of luck to all. Thanks again James and Andy (didn't we forget the group photo? Should we go back and do it?)
