johnwolf Posted July 7, 2008 Share #2 Posted July 7, 2008 Couldn't agree more. 10MP and a RAW buffer and I'm back in. -- John
marknorton Posted July 7, 2008 Share #3 Posted July 7, 2008 They didn't make the original Digilux 2 - Panasonic did. However, I take your point, the Digilux 2 seemed to hit a spot which the Digilux 3 has missed.
farnz Posted July 7, 2008 Share #4 Posted July 7, 2008 I'd buy it in a nanosecond. Pete.

sdai Posted July 7, 2008 Share #6 Posted July 7, 2008 The question is whether Panasonic wants to build a "LC2". Such a camera will jeopardize their 4/3 adventure.
spylaw4 Posted July 8, 2008 Share #7 Posted July 8, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) The question is whether Panasonic wants to build a "LC2". Such a camera will jeopardize their 4/3 adventure. I don't see why it would jeopardise 4/3 - it's a totally different animal. Also there does not need to be a Pana version, although not having one would inevitably push the price up.

kamilsukun Posted July 8, 2008 Share #9 Posted July 8, 2008 The question is whether Panasonic wants to build a "LC2". Such a camera will jeopardize their 4/3 adventure. Does anyone really see a future for 4/3? The future seems to swing between full frame and APS-C only. To lose the potential buyers of an enhanced D2 is really a pity for Leica. To win them would be a true benefit.
rob_x2004 Posted July 8, 2008 Share #10 Posted July 8, 2008 Someone with half a brain would ask for panasonic to be given an M body shell, a rangefinder unit, a lens bayonet and a performance brief that instructed supply of a robust and sophisticated unit for leica to slip back into their production line. Overgaard Posted July 8, 2008 Share #11 Posted July 8, 2008 I'd buy two of them. 8 MP or more, raw buffer, AF. If it had M or R bayonet too, I don't know what else I would need (or 4/3 bayonet with option for an R adapter). Call it Digilux MP

Yep! Not forgetting all the other factors needed to satisfy the oppposing camps - manual/Auto/AF/whatever. Actually the D2 had it all anyway.
sdai Posted July 8, 2008 Share #14 Posted July 8, 2008 A senior manager from Panasonic's AMC division has openly discussed their product plan in an interview with DC Watch, which I've posted here before ... can't find it anymore. When it comes to their roadmap, he said they'll continue to do 4/3, and will focus on the FX and TZ series in the compact areas. There was no mention of LC nor LX at all, so I guess it's very unlikely we'll see another D Lux or a Digilux something ... but, like some have already suggested, Leica could do a Digilux 4 with the M bayonet to fill in the lineup as a "digital CL". The Digilux series is not a system, so theoretically, they could change mount everytime.
rob_x2004 Posted July 8, 2008 Share #15 Posted July 8, 2008 Yep! :)Actually the D2 had it all anyway. And it won awards. I mean life could be so simple if people stuck to their knitting. After all your biggest competitor in manufacturing is yourself, getting your act together. Imagine too, a leader line to the top end. Sort out all their marketing problems too. MJLogan Posted July 9, 2008 Share #17 Posted July 9, 2008 We're tilting at windmills here, but I'll join in. I'd buy one, maybe two, if they offered it with a proper raw processor, as long as they didn't also stuff it with too many pixels. In a perfect world, they'd shrink the body a bit while they were tinkering. Hands off the lens, though! That's perfect.
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted July 10, 2008 Share #18 Posted July 10, 2008 Could have a bit less w/a- distortion though ... Otherwise the lens is a beauty and works perfectly well ! Would also jump on a D2 II in an instant. Best
audidudi Posted July 10, 2008 Share #19 Posted July 10, 2008 Could have a bit less w/a- distortion though ... True, but at least the distortion it does have is easily corrected.
jbstitt Posted July 10, 2008 Share #20 Posted July 10, 2008 For me, the abandonment of the D2 concept for the D3 concept meant abandonment of Leica for Canon. They are totally different horses. Long before the D2 came out there was plenty of discussion of the D2 upgrade needs and how it would be a classic line. I bought a D3 - and took it back. NOT A D2 MarkII but a different concept. If they make a "D2 Mark II" I might come back. If it has the lens and mistique of the D2 I'll morgage my house for one. For now, the D2 is still in my stable as a plow horse. Am I sour on Leica now after 30 years shooting Leica? Yes!
