I think the thread evolved into examples of why we enjoy using our M8's rather than truly M8 only situations. Not too bad a reason for a thread in this forum. .....I don't love you now, don't let the door hit your butt on the way out and leave some money for the beer on the fridge. . Guest stnami Posted June 26, 2008 Share #149  Posted June 26, 2008 not grumpy at all just astounded that people are so willing to showcase such ordinary images with the pretence that the m8 is what makes those images so special and different to other stuff on the market   other than that nothing really s to mind

pgk Posted June 26, 2008 Share #151  Posted June 26, 2008 Well stnami, these may not be wondrous images, but they do illustrate why I like the M8 - its versatile, it does what I want it to (and I'm in charge!), but most of all I can carry it and a couple of lenses anywhere and everyhere and take photos as I see them and want to do so. No camera intrisically takes good images (no not even the M8!) but actually enjoying using a camea is perhaps somewhat underrated.....  Lastly, it creates situations! I did a shoot the other day mostly on a huge dSLR - no problem. But then I took out the Leica and the person I was taking shots of immediately perked up and said "Oh, what a fine camera" and as a direct result was happy to spend longer being photographed and was clearly fascinated by the camera. Odd how the bulky dSLR didn't grap his imagination in the same way. Perjaps this is #100 Welcome, dear visitor! So few bother here ,it is the camera they are interested in not what it is used for......... Â It's a camera Imants, you don't need to pass an exam before you buy one, you just need the right amount of money. So you'll get people with a wide range of abilities using it. You'd get a similar range of images - and probably very similar subjects - on a Canon or a Nikon forum.
pgk Posted June 26, 2008 Share #156  Posted June 26, 2008 ...... it would be great to see people lift their game and explore what is possible. So few bother here ,it is the camera they are interested in not what it is used for.........  Stnami  Not wishing to be rude, but negative attitudes are an amazingly good way to put people off posting their images! Personally I like the images I posted (these particular ones are 'fun' images taken for my own pleasure, nothing more) and I'm not overly bothered whether you deem them 'ordinary' or otherwise - because my last post's intention was to illustrate the fact that I can simply shoot whenever and wherever I like because of the M8's attributes I quoted. jaapv Posted June 26, 2008 Share #157 Â Posted June 26, 2008 Don't worry about Imants. He is the court jester at this forum. They carried a mirror to remind the king that he was just a human being, for all of being king. Jesters were never executed, whatever they said. Now a well- aimed kick from time to time... Amoment Posted June 26, 2008 Share #158 Â Posted June 26, 2008 Surely if your posting a photo on here that your pleased with, and you believe that the quality of the camera has helped, then you've already lifted your game. Â Because an individual doesn't appreciate that, it shouldn't take anything away from the smile on your face when you first saw the photo on the screen. chris_tribble Posted June 26, 2008 Author Share #160 Â Posted June 26, 2008 Reason #101 ... however good or bad the photos we have posted here might be, more of us are working on taking better photos (with a tool that releases us from having to carry around heavyweight kit) than we would have been without the M8 being around. OK - a lot of the examples we've shared aren't fine art, aren't provocative, aren't necessarily good photos - but some are IMHO. They've also shared work that fits into great landscape traditions, portraiture and the commercial world of the wedding and product photographer. Looking at Imant's work, I can see why he feels that a lot of the material here falls short - but we're not all following his trajectory. Life's not fair and not everyone does good work - true. But a lot of those who have contributed make their livings (or parts of their livings) with cameras, and the M8 has given us back the possibility of working discretely, accurately and imaginatively with a tool that suits our purposes. Â Thanks to everyone for participating in this posting. It's been fun, and I think it does demonstrate that there are 101 (pretty good) reasons for having an M8. Â :)
