I'm going mad with these re-installation of apps on my new iMac.

After Aperture which won't launch, now Capture One 4.1 refuses my password,

telling me activation time is out.

I log on Phase One website : administrator error,

page wont't load.

I try to go backward installing Capture One LE 3.7.7. : install crashes instatly.:mad::p:(

Of course I did. Twice. Second time : not a single one permission to repair,

meaning it was absolutely clean, as you may hope from a machine running since 5 days.

Rebooted.

Trashed all, re-installed, etc.

After a week going mad with maintenance center sending me back my G5

falsely repaired-meaning unrepaired, now this brand new iMac won't install my two major

apps. Fortunately, LR installed without a glitch.

On PhaseOne website, when clicking support "List of known issues", I get "Page not found".

When clicking "Online support", I got

"Error ! The error has been logged and System Administrator has been notified.

We apologize for the inconvenience."

.

Idem when clicking "Knowledge base".

Something's rotten in the kingdom of Denmark ??

Sthan, sorry but I can't understand right.

Did you complete the installation, and when launching the app it stops with the activation error?Or you can't even complete the installation procedure?

Anyway, I had a problem with Capture One few weeks ago and i opened a help procedure with their website, I received an answer that solved all of my problems few hours later... it worth the try!

Maurizio, grazie,

Two problems :

- C1/4 won't accept my activation code, after 6 month. Why ?

- Trying to re-install LE 3.7 after trashing C1/4 : instantly, the installer crashes,

lightning fast.

The same with Aperture 1.5 (disk) or 2.1 (.dmg): crashes on install.

- C1/4 won't accept my activation code, after 6 month. Why ?

I had the same problem because I've installed it too many times (or tryied to).

To solve this issue I had to log in to the Phase One website, open my activation page and remove some of the older installation (they're all recorded in a list that is visible to you).

Here is the link to the support page to solve this:

http://www.phaseone.com/home/Content/Support/article.aspx?articleid=1184&languageid=1&layoutid=SupportSite%20-%20Main

- Trying to re-install LE 3.7 after trashing C1/4 : instantly, the installer crashes,

lightning fast.

It's not designed to work with osx 10.5, so if you launch the app it will suddenly freeze.

You have to use the C1/4

The same with Aperture 1.5 (disk) or 2.1 (.dmg): crashes on install.

Dunno so much about Aperture... I abandoned it suddenly after buyin' it last year! :(

Hope this help!

Dottore Maurizio,

Se Lei avessi anche la soluzione per quanto riguarda Aperture, io sarei

il Suo debitore eterno.

Nothing happens, that's the problem.

Joking apart :

I tried an install of Aperture 1.5 on my new iMac.

It asks me my serial number, which I type, and then

remains stuck on the small launch window (Aperture icon

+ my name + my serial n°).

I downloaded the 1.6 update.

No avail.

I repaired permissions juste in case (none was broken,

the machine being 5 days old).

That's it.

I had the same problem sometime ago with 2.0.

I had to trash the Apple System ID (Application Support > ProApps),

re-launch 2.0 and it launched normally again. That turnaround does not

work anymore (tried it).

I know a lot of people have problems with Aperture crashing under Leopard.

(see Aperture discussions on Apple website forum)

Mine doesn't even open.

If your Mac's been upgraded to Leopard you'll need to download and install the latest version of C1 from their website. The existing key should work ok.

Of course if it's a MacBook Air it'll have shipped with Leopard.

sthan I picked up my M8 yesterday and my capture one wont even start to install with my also new macbook air. at my wits end with this.

First time, the registration on Phase One website was all but clear.

You have to type your registration #, then your email, then your details, then validate.

You receive, if I recall, a code valid only for first launch, then you're settled.

In fact, I did not use LE, and immediately upgraded (free) to C1 / 4.

If you did that and if it doesn't launch, I cannot help anymore.

Try, like Maurizio, to contact them.

Thanks for posting this thread. It motivated me to have another try with C1. I had given up in disgust several months ago after being thwarted at every attempt to move from 3.7 to 4.0.

Now I have C1 v4.1 up and running on two XP's and so far so good. As easy as LR and ACR are to use I always felt more in control with C1. I particularly have missed using all those nice JHR profiles and the film and filter emulating profiles.

In fact, Dave B., after working on the same set of images in the 3 apps,

my conclusion :

- for portrait and skin tones in general, Aperture is far better if you want

neutral tones ; learning curve is steep, interface not intuitive (a paradox

for Apple).

- for fine details, it seems (see recent LFI comparison in April issue) that

C1 has a clear edge ; pretty easy to use too.

- for ease of use, color correction and integration with the Internet, LR

seems the best.

Aperture... interface not intuitive (a paradox

Yep, in fact the whole programmers' team that created Aperture V.1 was completely replaced after its launch.

Anyway, Sthan, are you tryin' to install version 2 or 1.5 at the moment?

I'll suggest you one thing, download the trial version of Aperture 2.1 (completely compatible with OSX 10.5 while 1.5(6) isn't really).

Install it and launch it in trial version, it should install and work.

The second time you launch Aperture complete the form with your original s/n and you'd be able to have a clean installation.

If you encount problems again, just please delete all of the previous versions simply by dragging it into the trash can before reinstalling the trial version.

Remind to delete all of the Aperture libraries, components and Aperture.plist (the precise name is com.apple.aperture.plist) files present in the following directories:

/users/user/images

/system/library/components

/library/preferences

/users/user/library/preferences

then you should find and delete the folder /users/user/library/application support/aperture too.

Try with this way and let me know, just don't use the original installation disc.

Sometimes this works...
