jaapv Posted June 9, 2008 Share #61 Posted June 9, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) most people here with M8 have focus problem with their lens, and the M8 has the full rangefinder mechanism. what will happen with a CL rangefinder mechanism, with shorter baseline? I hope Leica has found a soluction, perhaps by some electronic means, otherwise Solms will face another wave returnees for calibration. on another front, the zeiss-cosina group has been very quiet on the camera front, although they have been aggressively expanding their lens line, which is now more comprehensive then the M lens, it would make sense to roll out a digital body, won't it? That is very simple, the same they did with the CL and for the same reason: limit the number of lenses it is supposed to focus correctly with. For instance state that it is intended for the Summarit series and the Elmarit-M asph.

earleygallery Posted June 9, 2008 Share #62 Posted June 9, 2008 Its quite funny reading this thread. Lots of rumours and mis-information (there seems to be more mis-information on internet forums generally, people state stuff they've just made up as fact and other take it as so). OK I admit - when I was a kid - I also used to try and unwrap my presents under the christmas tree, just enough to see what they were. The problem with that was I then felt so disappointed that I didn't have the surprise to look forward to anymore. C'mon guys - have some patience and stop trying to peek at the presents!! veraikon Posted June 9, 2008 Share #63 Posted June 9, 2008 Porsche cannot compete against a Volskwagen. Porsche won´t compete against Volkswagen - because Volkswagen belongs to Porsche . (they bought it ) That is very simple, the same they did with the CL and for the same reason: limit the number of lenses it is supposed to focus correctly with. For instance state that it is intended for the Summarit series and the Elmarit-M asph. This may one aspect- the other I don´t believe that the CLdigital will be have a tradtional rangefinder. lct Posted June 9, 2008 Share #64 Posted June 9, 2008 most people here with M8 have focus problem with their lens, and the M8 has the full rangefinder mechanism. what will happen with a CL rangefinder mechanism, with shorter baseline?... Nothing worst than with the R-D1 if RF length and VF magnification are cleverly chosen i guess. Now Leica could allow users to adjust themselves to a certain extent the alignment of the rangefinder. Some R-D1 users are used to do the same but they (we) have to remove the hotshoe for that.
lct Posted June 9, 2008 Share #65 Posted June 9, 2008 ...C'mon guys - have some patience and stop trying to peek at the presents!! Why couldn't we dream a bit my dear James? You know what i would see very well a laser based RF on the hopefully forthcoming CLd. After all Leica are specialists of this aren't they?
Saloti Posted June 9, 2008 Share #66 Posted June 9, 2008 Would be great for sure but 1500 EUR is the price of an brand new R-D1 in HK right now. Adding to this shipping, insurance, VAT and other taxes makes at least 1800 EUR or 2800 USD (or 1400 GBP) to get such a body which was sold for 3000 EUR in Europe 4 years ago.It was probably overpriced then but 2000 EUR seems to be the limit for, say, a Cosina body, which brings us to about 3000 EUR at least for a German made Leica. Now the CL was made in Japan, so perhaps the digital CL could be made in Asia as well... Why not a CL body manufactured in Asia ?
andybarton Posted June 9, 2008 Share #67 Posted June 9, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Why not a CL body manufactured in Asia ? Makes perfect sense to me. So long as it's got a rangefinder...
ErikFive Posted June 9, 2008 Share #68 Posted June 9, 2008 I heard they where going to release a special coffe maker with the Leica name on it. You can either get it in Chrome or BP. The BP wears nicely and you can see the brass underneath after a while. The coffee maker will also come with its own matching coffee grinder covered with saddle leather for good grip. It will all be packed in a wooden box handcarved by the last remaining hobitt from Lord of the Rings

That's the reader's fault if they just accept it. All they need to do is ask for proof, and they'll either get b.s. ("I heard it from a reliable source" that they won't name), or a personal attack to try and distract attention from the fact they got busted making sh!t up. adan Posted June 11, 2008 Share #73 Posted June 11, 2008 Well, actually, Leica CAMERA through the sports optics division also does laser RF devices, including ones built into their GEOVID binoculars. thrid Posted June 16, 2008 Share #78 Posted June 16, 2008 Why not a CL body manufactured in Asia ? I'd buy two as long as the price was right and Leica was really strict about the QC, like they were / are with the CL and certain zoom lenses. has pulled it off, so could Leica. I have the Zeiss ZF 1.4/50 Planar for my Nikon and the quality is excellent.
SteveP Posted June 21, 2008 Share #79 Posted June 21, 2008 It's kind of like waiting for David Lynch to come out with a new movie. You know it will be different, you just don't know how much. This is the best comment about Leica I have ever read.
Saloti Posted June 22, 2008 Share #80 Posted June 22, 2008 I am deeply convinced that a digital CL, body made in Asia, would open a completely new market for Leica. We should not forget: One reason that Leica´s Summarit sales are not as they expected them to ne is that it does not make a lot of sense offering "cheap" lenses with an extremely expensive body. A CLd body with Summarit lenses, however, make perfect sense. And - the whole discussion with regard to M8 prices would come to end end (certainly not the need to increase quality...).
