jaapv Posted April 6, 2008 Share #1 Posted April 6, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Normally they don't bother me, but today there was a window jumping up and down, in bright red too, about some cell-phone sale. I'd happily pay a subscription to be spared that kind of irritating thing....
Advertisement Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Hi jaapv, Take a look here Ads in the sidebar. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

Adblock totally removes all advertising on any and every site - heaven for free. Welcome, dear visitor! LUF Admin Posted April 7, 2008 Share #3 Posted April 7, 2008 First - the ads in the sidebar are delivered by Google Ads - I've no or very little influence what is shown here. Second - please keep in mind, that the advertising helps to run this forum. I have to pay real bills for software licences and the provider and much more work every month. I can do this only as long as I can convince advertisers that ads are working here. If you want to block the ads (what I can understand personally), feel free to support the forum in another way, for example by a sponsor membership: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/payments.php Best regards from Bonn Andreas
jaapv Posted April 7, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted April 7, 2008 I know, Andreas, and normally I have no problem with the ads, it was just this red block jumping up and down on the lefthand side of the forum was too distracting to my eye. That one certainly was not working for me.
gwelland Posted April 7, 2008 Share #5 Posted April 7, 2008 For Safari users there's also an Adblock version: Safari AdBlock I subscribed as a sponsor member to the forum so my conscience is clear.
jaapv Posted April 7, 2008 Author Share #6 Posted April 7, 2008 What I do notice is, that since the site allows ads, the number of spyware and adware infections on my computer has gone up. Or maybe it is a coincidence with no common cause...Not a real problem, AntispywareBot kicks them off as they appear. Is that something you can block at your end, Andreas? I'm sure the spyware infections have nothing to do with the Leica Forum. Banner ads come from only two sources: 1. Advertisers I work together personally like B+H, Gordy and Bogen Imaging 2. Google Ads I trust both sources - but if you find any indications of malware in the forum, please let me know! Best regards from Bonn Andreas
Canfred Posted April 9, 2008 Share #8 Posted April 9, 2008 I think we all do understand these ads help to pay some bills but I just wish the ad people would have a better understanding, these rapid colour changes can couse migranes and worse in some persons. No I do not suffer from this but I do know some cases. Manfred
jaapv Posted April 10, 2008 Author Share #9 Posted April 10, 2008 Normally I don't mind the ads, some are interesting; I'll click them to help the forum. But the Dutch members are being pestered with extremely annoying cellphone ads, that are large, garish and jump all over the place.

Andreas, p l e a s e tell us how many supporting subscribers you need in order to get rid of stuff like this. Ads at the top of the page, ads at the bottom of the page, ads on the side of the page - it is getting a bit hard to bear, when you have to return to junk like this every time you've looked at a photo in the people section and want to look at the next one. For me this begins to feel like crossing the line...
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! plasticman Posted July 18, 2008 Share #16 Posted July 18, 2008 Hi Andreas Is there a way to filter the ads from Google? I would hope that some sort of categorizing might be possible, so that ads related to photography would come up, rather than for dating services? I was surprised to see this ad today - I personally don't think it's appropriate. But I fully understand the need for the ads, in general. Thanks for running a great (free) site! GMB Posted August 1, 2008 Share #18 Posted August 1, 2008 Hi Andreas I was surprised to see this ad today - I personally don't think it's appropriate. Mani II fully agree. I actually loaded the site twice because I when I saw the add for the first time I thought it could not be true. On the other hand, if no one clicks on the add, it should disappear. Google gets paid only if people follow the link of an add. Part of Google’s success is that they monitor how many people on a site click on an add, and they adapt their adds accordingly (i.e., show adds that people click on and take off adds that no one follows). So if the dating add continues to show up, it does perhaps tell something about lonely photographers...
farnz Posted August 4, 2008 Share #19 Posted August 4, 2008 I can tolerate most ads as well but I'm continually getting a banner ad across the top of the page for 'Leica my point of view'. Normally I'd be okay with it but when I click the down arrow beside the "Quick Links" link the resulting box runs UNDER the ad and I can't access the links. Does anyone know how to get round this please? Pete.
