gIzzE Posted March 4, 2008 Share #2 Â Posted March 4, 2008 Digilux 3 will take the R lenses with an adapter.
mjh Posted March 4, 2008 Share #3  Posted March 4, 2008 The Digilux 3 is also the only D system Leica, with no indication this might change anytime soon. The Olympus E-3 is more affordable and, quite frankly, better in most every way (much better viewfinder, much improved AF, built-in image stabilization that works with R system lenses etc.). There’s no way to mistake it for a Leica, though.
yra Posted March 4, 2008 Author Share #4 Â Posted March 4, 2008 Thak you so much. Do I need am adapter for the Olympus??
adan Posted March 4, 2008 Share #5 Â Posted March 4, 2008 Yes, you need one, or several - Leica sells an R-to-4/3rds adapter (so does CameraQuest). Â Just remember the 2x crop factor for 4/3rds cameras. Nice if you are turning a 180 into a "360" - not so nice if you're turning a 15mm into a medium-wide "30mm". yra Posted March 4, 2008 Author Share #6 Â Posted March 4, 2008 Is the E-3 the only camera that can take R-lenses?
sdai Posted March 4, 2008 Share #7 Â Posted March 4, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Canon EOS cameras take R lenses with an adapter too ... there're MANY thread on this forum about this. Do a search and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Â Add 500 bucks to the price of a Olympus E-3 then you can get a 5D, no confusion about focal length or whatsover. yra Posted March 4, 2008 Author Share #8 Â Posted March 4, 2008 I am stuck with many Nikkor lenses.......someone should make a Leica -to-Nikon adapter !! Â BTW- what happened to all my threads from the previous forum.....??

stuny Posted March 4, 2008 Share #10 Â Posted March 4, 2008 YRA - Â Also be aware that you need to do stop-down metering with either camera body.
andybarton Posted March 4, 2008 Share #11 Â Posted March 4, 2008 An R8 or R9 with a DMR will take R lenses (if you wish to shoot digitally...)

yra Posted March 5, 2008 Author Share #13 Â Posted March 5, 2008 Stunning photos!!!! Â Doesn't Panasonic makes a SLR that will take R-lenses???
earleygallery Posted March 5, 2008 Share #14 Â Posted March 5, 2008 Panasonic, Olympus and Leica all offer 4/3 mount DSLR's so with an adapter you will be able to use an R lens on any of them (albeit with 2x crop factor and stop down metering as already mentioned above). sdai Posted March 5, 2008 Share #15 Â Posted March 5, 2008 You should know both DMR and Digilux 3 are discontinued so you could only get them as secondhand from the used market. Also both were not built by Leica, so there're risks regarding warranty and services. Â R system is basically dead ... unless you already have a load of stuff, there's no good reason to waste more money on it. If you must have a Leica, wait till this September and save your money for the new "R10" or whatever they may call it.

Or save $500, deal with the focal legnth frustration and get in camera stabilization, Live View with a flexible LCD, weather sealed body and a dust buster, too....... No speculation on my part, I have one.  Cheers,
yra Posted March 5, 2008 Author Share #18 Â Posted March 5, 2008 Thank you all, I have 3 or 4 R-lenses that I would like to use with the most affordable camera. If I would know about the E-3 I would re-think before buying the Nikon D-200 (also since I have old & good Nikkor lenses that work very well with the d system). No speculation on my part, I have one. Cheers,  Conrad, that's because you're the original owner ... unless you tell me you bought secondhand on ebay or whatsover, and it's my understanding, now you can't even buy warranty from Leica, right?  Buying a second hand digital camera is never a good idea. There’s no way to mistake it for a Leica, though.  Do you know whether the aperture ring on Leica 4/3 lenses works with Olympus bodies, or only Panasonic (in addition to the Digilux 3)?  Does the aperture ring work with the Panasonic L10, a camera roughly comparable to the Olympus 510, or only with the L1 (Panasonic's version of the Digilux 3)?
