dsapkota Posted February 21, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 21, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear all, There has been rumor about Leica R10 body for a while already, what's about Leica R Autofocus lenses? Do you think Leica will make AF lenses too? Thanks. Photography in Nature - Dhruba Kumar Sapkota

mgcd Posted February 21, 2008 Share #2 Posted February 21, 2008 With respect to Leica autofocus lenses, it is only speculation. To complete the answer to your question, there are no news wit respect to the R10...

robsteve Posted February 25, 2008 Share #6 Posted February 25, 2008 Which search precisely? There is a search tool, but I just sorted by the number of replies, by clicking the "Replies" column title in the list of thread in this forum. From there I found the two popular R10 threads. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/10376-leica-r10-any-ideas.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/31414-r10-brand-new-digital-r-coming.html
dhsimmonds Posted February 26, 2008 Share #7 Posted February 26, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have noted that many dealers in the UK seem to be running down their stock of both new and used R lenses. The exception being Ffordes. Of course this may just be a seasonal stock adjustment before year end accounting or it might have something to do with anticipating new lenses from Leica? RobMac Posted February 26, 2008 Share #8 Posted February 26, 2008 Or it might mean they want to move out some slow moving stock. With the shake-up at the top of late, they will be wishing to avoid ordering new (and very costly) slow-moving (vs. Canon, Nikon, etc) inventory until they get a clearer picture of what may or may not be coming from/happening at Solms. No R10 in 2008 means slow-moving inventory becomes glacial. Having spent a career as an analyst on Bay (CDN version of Wall St) and Wall Street, unless Lee was fired for very personal reasons, this move plus the recent trend in their year/year numbers will mean (as in HIGHLY likely) that some short-term pain and turmoil is coming. A few dealers may drop the line entirely if Solms starts tying to shift it's inventories to dealers ( a VERY common tactic when trying to clean up numbers) by dropping wholesale prices and/or requiring dealers buy x R product for every Y in M gear ordered. I would expect the purchases of new inventory by dealers will get bleak until they see what is going to happen. They, as usually happens when manufacturers uder go turmoil, don't want to be left holding the bag (or as small a one as possible). Dealers will be no better informed than we are. There will be a wack of Solm-to-dealer memos trying to calm nerves (because the slow-down in dealer purchases will only hurt Solms that much more), but those memos mean nothing. They are boiler-plate ' all is ok' nonsense that fools no one and are written by middle executives (regardless of who signed it) who know little more than the dealers do. I would also expect 2nd hand purchases of lenses to slow as well until folks get a clearer indication of what is/is not coming re: an R10. Aaargh. Given the chief beancounter is in charge at the moment and their Y/Y performance, it almost always mean there will be buckle-tightening and a lot of folks being told to justify their R&D budgets. REALLY justify. I would not be surprised to see some product rationalization around higher-margin & turn-over products (read M) take place. If Lee being canned had been done amidst strong y/y financials, it would mean something far different... We shall see, but ....it might not be a bad time to sell any R lenses you were on the fence about - and negotiate hard with dealers for those you do want - R10 or no R10. I REALLY hope I'm wrong, but this is a classic case of what I have seen so many, many, many times. Long term it could be a bump in the road, but in the interim, be prepared to get very possibly very pissed-off.
lct Posted February 26, 2008 Share #9 Posted February 26, 2008 I have noted that many dealers in the UK seem to be running down their stock of both new and used R lenses... Same in France and Germany AFAIK. Just found out a rommed 35-70/4 new with 1 year warranty for 600 euro in a regular Leica shop. Rats are leaving the ship or they all expect a new mount for the R10 IMHO.
RobMac Posted February 26, 2008 Share #10 Posted February 26, 2008 If you want a lens and having it is independent of an R10 (fingers crossed), take advantage of the situation - regardless of what the real reason turns out to be with the benefit of history.
