Mac (which I've used for 20 years) has, for me, always been about the overall computing experience. Hi Ian, I haven't compared apples to apples (no pun intended) but the Mac Pro has been flying on RAW conversions, about 1.5 seconds per with some files. To announce to the world (small 'w') that ReidReviews had, again, published a review that was at once the usual coherent, cogent, and informative presentation -- and about a Mac conversion. 2. To note that this publishing source had again incited my particular interest. 3. To elicit from Sean information about his use of a windoze enabler within the MacPro OS. As step 2 is not so important to others, I should say that points 1 and 3 were met admirably. Why not try the Open Source OpenOffice (available free from OpenOffice.org: Home) instead ... Offers word processing, spreadsheet, presentations and databases. There's a Windows compatibility mode, just as much functionality for the conventional user, and a lot more stability. It can even recover corrupted MS Word files on occasions ... Word for MAC is far too expensive and using the Windows version through parallels is just a cludge. Far better to use Word-compatible software written for the MAC such as Nisus Writer Pro, which is cheap and VERY effective - and (thank god) doesn't have an idiot 'paper-clip' trying to second-guess you all the time.... Runs fine on my Mac Pro 2.66 Quad, as does LR1.3. When my G4DP Mac dies, then it will be another Mac Pro; sadly we now have 5 macs at home - oh dear!! I'm actually a bit surprised that everyone isn't already using Macs. I would also think the new super compact Airbook would be snapped up by well to do M8 users considering all the grumbling about the enormous size of the M8 charger and willingness to pay exorbitant sums for a smaller one. Yes, both a Mac and a PC compute in much the same way both a Canon and a Leica take pictures. And the Macs do have more than their fair share of hardware problems. mhoutman Posted February 19, 2008 Share #52 Posted February 19, 2008 here speaks a very happy apple user since 1986. since a couple of days i have a new mac pro 3.2 ghz and a macbook pro 2.6 ghz on my desktop; some external g-technoloy drives make the suite complete. my last mac was a g4 933 purchased in 2001 so they are no comparison to new macs which really rock ! leopard is stabile yet i have to wait for a final release of now up-to-date/contact. calendar/contact manager) last but not least i use windows xp under parallels and vista under vmware fusion. life is beautiful !! The last timer I checked on the Microsoft UK site they were making it quite clear that you needed to provide proof of being a bona fide student before you could get the student version. Thanks ever so much for correcting me. Honestly I feel that you were being the rude one. The title of this specific thread says it's about a review of a Mac. You could have just passed over this thread but no you had try to play forum police (hmmm, like checking out my previous posts???!!!!). Let us have our fun - eventually the thread will die and then you can breathe easy again. Yes, I prefer to talk. Though unlike some of the biggest (and rudest) talkers on this forum, I use my real name and post my website (like yourself) which includes lots of Leica work.
