Here is a gallery of some of the images I made on "Leica-Day":

I was going to sell the M8, but I can now see that despite all the issues, that would be a lame move.

Let's do this again!

Well, this event has been very positive all round and if an illustration were needed - this is it! A jaded Leica owner has his faith restored. Its a miracle folks!

KM - Keep having fun with your great camera - just like the rest of us!

...

but couldn't shoot properly yesterday. Had a hell of a time with french administration

(one of the worst species)

I'm quite sure you were driven accidently, by mistake, error and wrong, through to the Complains' Office. I can't see any other and further issue to your relationship with that terrible "octopus" ;)

Well, I can only repeat what has been said. I would like to give my best thanks to Ann Barton for the initial suggestion, Bill for getting it rolling, Andreas for setting it up (hoping to get the credits right) and all you Leicagraphics around the world for making this unique event happen. The outcome is overwhelming.

I would be highly in favour to repeat this experience. However, if we stick to Feb. 29th, we would have the same issue as the unhappy chap who threw quite a party in my hotel during the Leica day...

Thank you again

Stefan

Stefan,

For info, on other threads I've suggested a yearly event on Oskar Barnack's birthday - 1st November.

For those who are developing their own film and scanning is there a deadline for posting images?

In my case I will be developing tomorrow and posting on Tuesday, I could post a digital image now, but I like film and think there my be shots more in keeping with what I want to post.

Interesting to see the map as well - though some people (myself included initially) - haven't realised you need to post the address of the Jpeg, not the web page that the Jpegs on.

We're waiting for the first contribution from Antarctica, other than that we seem to have the continents covered.

I gave up on the map it was starting to look to crowded and messy.

Not if you zoom in a bit (or a lot).

What's interesting is that some of the features you can see in the Google map also appear in the posters' photographs.

Ok, not really that interesting <grin>

one question concering the terms and conditions of the Leica day: My wife, who was in china on the 29th, also took some pictures with her brand new D-Lux 3. I know, the rule is only one shot per member, but would it be ok if I post her contribution in my name? I think I could not convince her to register here and it would only add another inactive member to the forum....

Yours

Olaf

There is no problem with that as such, Olaf, but I think the Gallery software is set so that you can only upload one image per username. Why not set it up for her?

Regards,

Bill

I was very impressed by the Google map - you don't have to zoom in much for it to separate out and make sense

I'm not quite as sure about the gallery - the comment about jumble earlier appears to me to be a valid one - I have to say I prefer the thread system, where you scroll down past a narrative and a full size image - that seems to me to be much more involving and avoids the possibility of missing a good image from misunderstanding the thumbnail.

That having been said I appreciate that the Gallery system is a good way of offering a lot of images without an extremely bulky download and in any event my congratulations go to Andreas for a great technical achievement delivered effectively (and on time :) ) !!

Robert -- if you click on a thumbnail so that it expands, and you get a bigger image with a little title at the bottom, then if you use the left and right arrow keys on the keyboard, you get all the images that are on the same page, one after another, without having to go back to the thumbnails. Makes going through them a lot faster. John

Hmmm... I think there's something not quite right about how the "number of views" and "most viewed" function is working. Up to the last 3 days the most viewed pictures had a count of around 170 but overnight this has jumped to more than 1000 for some pictures which were posted less than 18 hrs ago. Very strange.

I like the gallery and the map. From that it would appear that South America and Africa are nearly unexplored market opportunities for Leica. Greenland, Alaska and Antarctica are also worth considering for further development.

I was wondering whether it would be possible to have a downloadable folder (zip file) available so that the images can be stored locally and you can use the slideshow option (or install as a screensaver)?

Anyway 'A Leica Day' is/was a great initiative!
