KM-25 Posted February 7, 2008 Author Share #22 Posted February 7, 2008 The site now better reflects a more global and celebration approach to this campaign and project. The forum software is on, but PHP needs to be up on my server, so I am a day or so away from the launch of the forums. But keep an eye on it, things are moving fast.... Jay66 Posted February 8, 2008 Share #23 Posted February 8, 2008 Does anyone know if Kodachrome prepaid processing mailers will be honored by Dwaynes or are they essentially worthless right now? I found four of them behind a bookcase while tidying up around the house.
pluton Posted February 10, 2008 Share #24 Posted February 10, 2008 The slow Kodachromes(PKM,etc.) were my favorites; I was never pleased with the E-6 alternatives; Now, there's digital, and I control more than I ever could with any film.
KM-25 Posted February 13, 2008 Author Share #25 Posted February 13, 2008 Any ideas about how I might get some Kodachrome in Hong Kong? None of the stores I use have it. I have had an idea for a while to shoot a project on some of the old Hong Kong businesses that are run by locals who may not be around much longer than this film. There is an umbrella repair man (fancy someone repairing something these days), an old fashioned barber shop, any number of mom and pop cafes, a street tailor... Seems like the perfect subject for one last look on Kodachrome. (It would be a first look for me, I have never used it.) G. I would like to work on this with you and a few other overseas shooters. Come on over and join in. Kodachrome is still one of the finest mediums around and with a huge history. ChadHahn Posted February 18, 2008 Share #27 Posted February 18, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'd be stunned if Walmart processed Kodachrome. In fact, I'll eat my hat. I hope that it's not a Tilley hat because I hear they're undigestable. As you found out Wal-Mart processes Kodachrome like they've always processed any slide film, but sending it out. This reminds me that my slides are probably back. I'll have to head in to Wal-Mart tomorrow. Chad
andybarton Posted February 18, 2008 Share #28 Posted February 18, 2008 In that case, I could say that I process Kodachrome. Pay me twenty quid and I'll send it to Dwaynes for you... that's not the same as actually processing it at all. The hat is safe!
earleygallery Posted February 18, 2008 Share #29 Posted February 18, 2008 I bought some Kodachrome at the weekend (3 for 2 at Boots). I used to shoot Kodachrome all the time - spent a year travelling around Oz and used nothing else (mailed the films as I used them and they were all waiting for me when I got back!). I also used it in 120 format. The mailer says to send it to Switzerland - why don't they instruct you to post it direct to the States? Cheaper postage maybe? (I'm guessing they send weekly batches from Switzerland). I'm really looking forward to using it again - might save it for a trip away.
ejd Posted February 18, 2008 Share #30 Posted February 18, 2008 I managed to get a few rolls of Kodachrome 200 from 7dayshop.com the other day -- I think they were the last few they had -- as well as some more Kodachrome 64. I've been enjoing using it again. I have lots of slides from the 1970s in the US, when I used it all the time. There are pictures from an epic journey by car from the East coast to the west coast and back. Classic stuff!
ChadHahn Posted February 19, 2008 Share #31 Posted February 19, 2008 I got my slides back yesterday. It took less than two weeks and cost less than $5.00 for processing for 36 exposures. Since I paid $2.00 per roll for my Kodachrome (short dated) it's cheaper than prints Chad

KM-25 Posted February 25, 2008 Author Share #33 Posted February 25, 2008 For what it is worth, as of today, Dwayne's now participates on the Kodachromeproject forum. And by the way, the project's main focus are three things: 1. To visually celebrate Kodachrome's 75th anniversary. 2. To petition for Kodak to allow Kodachrome photographers to be able to do that. 3. To foster the ideas of shooting meaningful images on Kodachrome in what could be it's last couple years instead of just seeing it fade away. Also, Kodachrome 64 is officially done in 24 exposure. ronryser Posted February 26, 2008 Share #34 Posted February 26, 2008 When I develop it I take it to Walmart. They only charge something like $3.00 a roll for 24 ex. Is that to just get slides? What would it cost for 4x6 prints? I tried looking at their site but it wanted me to creat an account.

I found four of them behind a bookcase while tidying up around the house. The mailers will end up at Dwaynes, but Kodak will pick up the bill. Part of the contract when you bought the film was to have it processed.

Yeah, I'm afraid I don't understand the question either. That's the price for getting slides developed. Getting C-41 film developed is more expensive. Getting C-41 film developed is more expensive. Chad I'm a total newbie so please excuse the dumb question...but here it goes. My understanding (or lack thereof) is that Kodachrome is a "slide" film. So when you have Dwayne's develop it, you get a pack of slides back, right? Is it not normal to get prints back when shooting slide film? If not, do you only use those slides in slide projectors or view them in slide viewers...just not real clear on their application. The idea of Kodachrome is interesting to me, so I'm trying to figure out if it would make sense for me to give it a shot. Thanks, Ron

Thanks, Ron Kodachrome is a slide film, and Dwayne's delivers a box of slides. For $4 extra they will also deliver a CD-ROM with scans. Prints can be made, either from scanned images or in a conventional manner. I scan my slides and have prints made from the digital images. If I ever take a show stopping "keeper", I will have a conventional print made on Cibachrome (also still available and fabulous). The main/only drawback to Kodachrome is that only Dwayne's in Kansas can process it - which means time. Otherwise it is a fabulous film - rich and delicious colour and unequalled sharpness. It also lasts for eons - I have unfaded slides from family pictures made in the 1940s. I could go on, but...
