Buying lenses previously sold

Hands up! Who's ever sold a lens, regretted it, and then bought an identical example (at a higher price than sold, obviously...)

Me.

Having decided to travel light on a forthcoming trip, and leave the DMR at home (that's the current plan anyway), I was thinking about which of my two M lenses to take. A 35 will be the way to go, I am sure.

I had a great little Summaron-M f2.8 that I traded for something else a few years ago. Ever since, I have been trying to buy one back. I thought that the f3.5 version would do, but the quality of the f2.8 one is in a different league. I have looked at and held one of the new Summarits, but the cost is prohibitive at this time (for me), and, seeing as how it looks exactly like a black Summaron, it got me with my fingers doing the walking.

So, today, I sucummed and bought an f 2.8 model again. The f3.5 will probably have to go, but then I'll miss that softness too...

On the other hand, I might just take the R4 and the 28, 60 and 90. :D

50/2.0 Summicron

90/2.8 Elmarit

135/2.8 Elmarit

Traded away with my first M6, back in the early 1990's.

50/2.8 Elmarit-M sold to a friend who deserved it.

50/2.0 Summicron chrome traded for black - a stupid decision.

All but the Chrome Summicron are represented with like examples today.

Lesson learned - keep your glass if you possibly can affoard to.

Did it once with a Summicron 35mm first version. Attached to it was an M3. Guess what I bought last year, yes, an M3 with matching 8-element Summicron...(and of course it was more expensive than what I got on selling the stuff).

Me too... Not only the same type of lens, but the exact same one...

I traded my R-mount Angeniuex 70-210 f3.5 when I bought my DMR because I felt I didn't use it enough. After several months I missed it, went back to the shop and bought it back...

The people that really regret selling their lenses are those that went on to digitals from other brands and then had to buy their lenses back at a higher price when the M8 or DMR came out. In my case, the purchase of both the DMR and M8 was much easier since I already had the lenses.

I've regretted selling a few [400 6.8, 60 macro, 35 2.0] but there's only one that I sold and bought back [so far]. That was my first Leica lens, 50 2.0 R and I bought that particular lens back, but did not really lose any money on the deal, still have it too.

I find it hard to sell stuff. I tend to buy whatever it is that I plan to replace something with, to make sure I prefer it first, but then never get around to selling the old item to help cover the cost.............

The thing is it's still there if ever I had to sell it.

I bought a 90 f4 Elmar recently (2nd one I've owned) and another 5cm Elmar. I only bought it as it was going cheap so I do aim to sell that one on.

I also re-bought a Rolleicord even though I hardly used the first one. I just missed it.

That's exactly what happened to me. I waited sooooo long for the M8, I gave up and went Canon - selling most of my M equipment and lenses to finance the change. Then the M8 arrived ......

Once bitten twice shy, I've sold the R bodies to part finance the M8/lenses but kept all the R lenses in anticipation of the R9. I just hope it's the right decision.

I follow the Duke of Westminster's family's motto: never sell.

The only reason these people never sell anything is because

a. they do not need yo

b. they and theirs own this country...and you better believe it

Actually, much to their chagrin they have to sell nowadays because of the recent changes in law allowing leaseholders to force the sale of freeholds. However I suspect this is unlikely to worry them financially.
