Has anyone come across this prototype D2 with a 'bat-wing' grip before?

I noticed it while searching eBay for an Elpro-d for another member davyluvzizgravy; (BTW, if you have one you don't need then I'm sure David would be interested!)

Pete.

Never seen it.

It's strange to me that *if* it really is a prototype, how is it that everything else is finalized?

It's virtually indistinguishable from the final product, except for that extremely strange handgrip. Even the FCC tag and a serial number.

That grip looks glommed on, to be honest.

And why does it even have a box?

Here is a rough web translation of the ebay ad -- Wow kool stuff

Thank you for your interest in this from Leica Digilux 2, it combines the classical beauty of a Leica compact camera with the features of the digital world.

The lens, a Leica DC Vario-Summicron 1:2.0-2.4 / 7-22.5 mm ASPH is very versatile and extremely bright.

At a rarity makes them by the world-renowned designer Prof. Colani designed hand grip (see photos) - this camera was / is the only prototype of the Leica "Colani Edition", which was never realized. They also have the option of a piece of "design-history" to buy - besides the fact a Digilux to have the perfect in the hands!

The technical condition is absolutely perfect and flawless, with the camera was only about 30 pictures, but otherwise she was in the cupboard. She is on 18.1.08 from the maintenance of Leica returned, there was, inter alia, the image sensor precaution exchanged. I put the maintenance staff course.

The camera has little trace of the design process to the rubber parts, rings and setting next to the hot shoe (some small scratches). All tracks are only visible upon closer look. Otherwise, the camera in the 1A state, the display is free of any scratches. Please convince you to hand them the photos.

As a bonus, I still do a microfiber cleaning cloth, a card reader and a fast 256 MB SD card, because you supplied with the original 64 MB card, especially in the RAW mode is not far.

I versende the camera within Germany as a package verischertes free!

If you have any questions, I am happy to assist you.

Yours sincerely, a lot of fun bidding!

Note: I agree with the return of the item as well as a guarantee or warranty claims.

Here again the key figures:

Thanks for sharing,

It looks odd to me and there is nothing prototype here, it is only a weird hand grip glued to a wonderful camera. No wonder why it was never produced! Maybe Luigi could design a nice half-case for it :-)
